Beach Descriptive Writing
One hot, humid, August morning around seven a.m., the smell of the lake water had already filled my nostrils. The temperature was already in the eighties and my lip had developed a fine sweat mustache. I knew it was going to be a hot day. We had arrived at the landing site fifteen minutes early; this allowed me time to get my gear organized and wonder the quiet landing site. As I stepped out of the truck, the door squeaked open. I gave it a heavy, handed push to close, as it was old and didn’t always shut the first try. The slam echoed through the deserted park. In my hand, I firmly grasped my go to rod and reel; it showed its age, as the emblem was slightly sun faded and the paint was chipped in some spots. This had been the rod that I had all my big …show more content…
However, I knew that this was a Striper fishing trip and my open face would not be needed. As we approached the dock, there were other boaters loading up. The small talk and laughter projected across the water; as well as, the occasional loud thud of someone dropping a cooler or piece of gear. The smell of bait fish and engine exhaust filled the air. I noticed that there was one boat that stood out; it was a classic fishing boat, that appeared a little ways off from the dock, gently rocking as the rippling waves crashed in the sides of it. The captain of the boat leaned on the captain’s chair while drinking what looked to be a thermos of coffee. He was skinny, wore glasses and had the build of a long distance runner. Once he saw my father and I advancing down the gradual paved slope to the dock, he quickly put his thermos down and greeted us. The captain cleared his throat it sounded as if sandpaper was being scratched together. He greeted us with a friendly “good morning”. My father politely replied back with a “good morning”. Once acquainted, I scurried and loaded my equipment on the boat, said goodbye to my father, and then we were off. He floored the engine sending huge rippling waves

The splashes of the freezing spillway mixed with the cold wind coming off the water sent chills down my back. I yawned, the loud purr of the tugboat next to us made it impossible to hear my uncle ask if I was tired. We were passing the train of barges right after we left the launch and were headed into the woods. I have done all this before. It was all familiar to me. The only difference was that I had never been out here this early. The eerie white light of the moon was the only thing that let us see right now. Luckily for us the moon was huge and full tonight. It was about 4:30 in the morning and we were speeding into the swamps of the spillway. I looked at my uncle and I saw him standing up, driving the boat, with a smile on his face. This was his job and he loved it. When you love the wilderness, being out in the woods for eight hours a day was a treat. Especially when it ended with picking up a paycheck of about a thousand dollars at the end of each of those days.…

I gazed up into the bleak morning sky and viewed the wafts of smoke, anything to take my mind off what was to come. The sound of the landing craft’s engines revved up indicating we were on our final approach. I gripped my Thompson and carefully glanced over it. The functionality of this gun could mean life or death for me and so it received my dearest attention. Suddenly the ear shattering sound of the big .50 caliber machine gun opened up on our boat. Immediately thereafter, the screech of a whistle permeated the air, and the front of the boat began lowering.…

Cole, Tyler, and our faculty adviser, Dr. Andy Hansen decided that we, as a club, would have a cookout on the Tuck and a learning session for the newcomers to the sport on the fourth. In the days leading up to the fourth I became more and more nervous for a myriad of reasons, the biggest was because I was worried about judgment from my peers. Before I knew it, the big day was here, we made our way to Dillard road, where we were meeting, to find a few of the members standing around. The socializing really helped calm my nerves, everyone was friendly and very easy to get along with, which are my type of people. Soon enough the cookout was over and many of us paired with some of the more conditioned fishermen to teach us the best ways to fish. I made my way down the river with Tyler and three others to a spot that I’d like to call a “honey hole” where there were about fifteen fish in a small area. As Tyler put one of us on a fish he would bring another one of us in to try our hand. Soon after, my turn came around and for the life of me I could not keep a fish on the line long enough to land it. Suddenly, everything changed. I got my hit, I kept the pressure, and I landed my first trout with a fly-rod, it was by no means impressive in size, but I was so proud of that rainbow-colored fish. Ever since then I can no longer wait until I can get back in the water to catch an even larger sized and quantity of…

When we went back on the boat I grabbed the rope and she grabbed the other rope and we went off. Jake told Bertram about a line under the net near the pontoons called the “dolphin striker rod” that you can hang from it under the net when he brought that up to Bertram I almost let go of the rope.. I started angrily stuttering about how that was dangerous and how they couldn't do it. But while I was talking they sat on the pontoons and slid off onto the bar and into the water. I stopped talking just long enough to see them get in. I was furious. but I couldnt help from…

“The Boat” written by Alistair MacLeod tells a story about a father’s life and how he lived as a fisherman. He expresses how his father always wanted him to become something bigger and better then what he became. The author, Alistair MacLeod, used many different writing techniques within this short story. The symbolism of “The Boat” expresses inevitability through the little hobbies the father/husband does through his boring routine life, obligation through the father/husband’s commitment as a fisherman to provide for his family, and imprisonment through his life as a fisherman even though he always wanted a university education.…

I was with my dad fishing on a Friday during the summer at about 4:30 PM. The day was hot and bugs were everywhere around us. I had on jeans, a t-shirt and a vest to store any fish we catch. My dad had on the same, but i had a smaller fishing rod than he did because I was small and not really ready for a fishing rod like my dad’s. We went out to fish and started at a bridge that was very rundown and poorly maintained and didn’t catch much because of the current and rocks around where we were. We got one fish to bite but it fell off whenever we pulled it up out of the water. We then decided to move to another spot over by the cliffs and ridges because no one was there to get in the way. For a while we didn’t go anywhere too crazy and nowhere that took too much effort to get to. Little did I know was that it’d all change quicker than I thought..…

“You’ll just be cold now and not hungry.” Everyone got settled in we got our poles set up with the right weights and lures. That proved to be quite difficult due the fact that our fingers hadn’t fully thawed yet. We dropped our lines into the water and hoped for the best especially with the luck we’ve had the past few years in the same general area. We fished for a while and didn’t get any bites so we added more weight to the lines so the bait would sink deeper and hopefully that would be where the fish were. We dropped our lines into the water and almost immediately my father had something on his line. He reeled in and the fish continued to fight. The fish came out of the water and flopped onto the ice above gasping for air. The monster he reeled in was a walleye no more than five inches long. “I didn’t know we were fishing for sharks.” I said…

When one thinks of summer, it immediately comes to mind the sight of sandy beaches, amusement parks and hot sunny days. Coney Island, an extravagant vacation playground to visit especially for the summer. I have recently had an opportunity to come to such a wonderful place that the sights are still engraved in my mind. There were other attractions that I have missed out on mainly since I had only one day there. If time was not an issue, I would have definitely visited more programs that they provide. Getting there is also not a problem due to their cheap and handy subway system. One thing to be cautioned about is that it can get extremely busy on the weekends, so the best time to be there would be on the weekdays, especially if you do not want…

Pfff, pfff,, pfff, “Time to wake up!” I heard, at 6:30 in the morning. It was Tuesday, war canoe day. I got out of my sleeping bag and grabbed my change of clothes. I put it on and stepped off the cot. Kevin, my tent mate, is up too. We put up our sleeping bags into the stuff sacks and prepare our other necessities into our bags. The troop leaders tell us we’ll be canoeing in the war canoes, which are to our disappointment, just giant canoes, to Parson’s beach. Everybody must keep paddling or we won’t get there in time. They estimated it would take 45 minutes. We went down to the waterfront with our stuff, and met the guides. We were going to haul the 100 lb canoes off the racks and onto PFD (personal floatation device) lines,…

Noticing the splashes of the waves more than anything, I never became fully aware about how far I’d gone out until it was too late. Not yet to the riptide, lucky me, I was able to catch ahold of myself. I spun myself around, I could just make out my grandmother’s cries, “Christine! Get back here, you’re too far out!” As I swung myself back to catch the board, I felt water up my nose, choked on the salty water, and got yanked under.…
