beach day
A day at the beach
As a child, I would often relish those fun-filled, joyous family outings. Along with my irritating little sister and adoring parents, we would speed off in the car ready to create a new adventure and take a plenty of pictures to add to the collection in the family album. An experience that stands out most to me now as a young adult was a time when we went to the beach when I was about eight years old.
Ecstatic, and jumping around like a frog in early spring, I was excited. Today was the day, mom and dad were taking my sister and I to the beach for the first time ever. Our older sisters had told us stories of the raging, gigantic waves and the blood seeking sharks that would chase us down and eat us if we dared to enter the ocean. But of course, that could not be true, so my sister and I put those stories far behind us as we headed to the beach.
When we arrived, my sister and I were amazed by the beauty of the ocean as we ran out the car. Before our eyes, lightly tanned colored sand embellished the ground. The waves were not as big as we were made to believe, but still big in compared to our small bodies. Above the water, was a clear sky in a deep, vibrant shade of blue with snowy white clouds. Nothing could compare to the sight except for the feelings that the ocean brought with it.
Our parents walked ahead of us as they chose a spot to put our things down, including a brightly colored umbrella, beach towels, a cooler full of cold drinks, and a picnic basket with food in it to eat later on. My sister and I withdrew our large clear jar, and set about collecting sea shells in the sand. As we excitedly walked around the beach, we collected countless shells of various shapes and sizes, textures and patterns; from rough to smooth, from complex to simple.
Lunch consist of cold ham and cheese sandwiches, and chicken wings, and Juice cartons. We enjoyed the meal sitting down as a family on the colorful beach towel. As we ate, my sister and I entertain

The massive waves were uncommon at Capitola, so we were cheerful we got to swim in the immense waves. After a terrific ten to fifteen minutes of…

I ran outside to find one of the most beautiful sights I had ever seen. The long stretch of sand was pure white and sparkled in the sun as if it had glitter mixed in with it. The sand scorched our feet like steaks on a fiery grill. I had brought the Rock along to join me for a surfing lesson. We snatched our wetsuits and our boards and hit the waves. The ocean water sends a chilling sensation through my body. The polar water feels like a steamy shower after a long day, calming and relaxing. The waves are monstrous and intimidating, however, I seem to ride them effortlessly like I had done it a million times before. I dash past the Rock and under a curling wave. In the waves there are vividly colored fish swimming in schools. The water is so translucent that one can easily see the ocean floor, and the coral and seaweed that lay on…

As the day was coming to an end me and my men decided to head back to our ship with the hope tomorrow we would figure out the way back home. We reached the beach, the night compared to the blackest of satin flowing along the sky and smothering its host in pure darkness. Now the complete opposite of the morning, the air was heavy and humid, making it hard to breathe and the beauty of the area dissipated and was left…

One warm summer day my family was frantically rushing to gather all our belongings for a week long adventure out west. We were trying our best to squeeze every item in the car; finally we were ready to depart from home. I was just fourteen years of age at the time and had never been more than a few states away. The ride there was beyond exciting, but extra long. I believe most of that was due to the anticipation of when we would finally reach the great state of Colorado.…

It is spring break, in the middle of March, my junior year. As I cross the state line into Florida, I picture the ocean as being a place of peace and serenity. It’s my first time visiting the ocean, and all I can think about is hoping it is as beautiful as the pictures I have seen of it. As I arrive to the beach with all my friends, the eagerness of seeing this peaceful place is rising. I can’t wait to smell the fresh salty air, feel the soft sand between my toes, walk along the breezy shoreline.…

As I walk down the narrow, brown, rickety bridge that leads to the ocean my heart begins to race in anticipation of reaching the fascinating sight. I’m suddenly surrounded by sand that is white and pure as snow. I walk at a turtle’s speed absorbing this overwhelming beauty that encircles me. The sky is the brightest blue I’ve ever seen, so bright that it almost seems as if it is from an animated movie and not real life itself. Fluffy clumps of clouds that were covering the sky before slowly fade away into thin air and the crystal clear waves sparkle like diamonds. The water is never-ending. I see heaps of seagulls flying around the sky, white and grey and full of spirit. As a gust of wind runs through my long, dark, brown hair I look to the right to see two elegant dolphins leap from the deep blue sea and dive back in as if saying hello to the gorgeous, heavenly day.…
