The Battle Buddy
The battle buddy, you may have heard have heard the term before or in other sayings, the “buddy system”. It’s simply the fact that you must have have at least one or more individuals accompanying you with anything you do wherever you go for many reasons. The battle buddy is system is extremely emphasised throughout the military such as in the Air Force they are referred to as “Wingmen, the Navy refers their buddy system as having a “Shipmate”, and in the Army the “Battle Buddy”. The battle buddy system for people in the world is significantly important especially in the US military. It instills teamwork, promotes safety, mutual assistance, support and overall significantly decreases stress within the individuals. In the US Army, brand new recruits have the battle buddy system forcefully instilled on their way of life during basic training. In basic training the new recruits are assigned a battle buddy by their drill sergeants, they are usually the trainee sleeping on the same bunk as the other trainee. All of the new recruits are people from different backgrounds from all over the country so drill sergeants truly have a emphasis to teach the trainees to learn how to not be an individual but to learn how to work with other people during their time in the US Army. Both of the trainees will do practically everything together during their ten weeks of basic training, such as, shooting together, go to the latrine, speak to the drill sergeants, help make each other’s beds, assist cleaning common area, they will be everywhere together unless circumstances change then they will be allowed to have anyone as their battle buddy for the time being. And if a trainee must go to a location that they cannot bring their weapon with them, they must hand their weapon off to battle buddy while they are away. Essentially your battle buddy is an extra set of eyes and ears for you. For example, if you must go to a dental appointment and when you return, your other
