Basketball Narrative
I have always wanted to play in the NBA. One day, I was playing in a basketball game at the Grand Ledge Gym. I shot a 3-pointer and made it! A few seconds later, the gym got quiet and all the people froze and then cheered loudly! A couple years later, I am lucky enough to be playing in an NBA stadium.
The gym was silent. Then, Dr. Naismith walked into the stadium. I said,
“How did you get here?”
“An NBA game just ended, how did you get here”, he said. .
“I think by playing basketball”, I replied. Mr. Naismith had glasses and was an older man, he had an odd haircut and a mustache.
“How did you ever come up with the idea of basketball?”, I asked.
“I had fourteen days to create an indoor sport, I called it basketball using the clever method of combining the word “basket” with the word “ball”. Then he invited me to play for the Boston Celtics in an NBA game at

Chuck Connors was right, the Falcons looked very good and Chuck had given me a starting position in the game. At first, the game was tied, then we came up by 9 points at the end of the first quarter. The second quarter it was tied again at 53-53. I had 10 of those points at half -time. I was exhausted and sat the bench for the rest of the game. We lost 103-99.
A week later, it was out last game of the playoffs, the series was tied. We each had won 3 games. In the final game, I didn't start. In the first quarter, we were up by eleven after the first quarter. In the second quarter I played my best and we were still down by 8 points ,40-48. I had 10 of those points at halftime. In the third quarter, when I came in, we were up by 2 points. I had 15 of those points! In the final quarter, with 10 seconds left, we were down by 2, I brought the ball up and with 3 seconds left, I shot a three-pointer and made it! That was the end of the game, we won!
It was the end of the series we won the payoffs. I said to myself,” how am I going to get home? Dr. Naismith

Since its beginning over a century ago, basketball has evolved from a simple form of exercise with only a few rules to a highly competitive and complex national sport. Basketball was invented by James Naismith at a YMCA in Springfield, Massachusetts, in 1891 (Fox 11-13). It began as an activity for the “‘ball-game’ void” months of winter (Hanson 65), and Naismith had five standards for the game. He wanted a ball that could be handled by a player’s hands; no one was to run with the ball, and anyone could grab the ball from another player as long as the ball was in play. There was to be no personal contact, and the goal was to be raised from the ground. He created the idea and standards for basketball by combining certain aspects of American…

James Naismith was the creator of basketball. He created it in 1891 to condition young athletes in the winter. The “hoop” was a peach basket and the ball was a soccer styled ball. There were many rules for the new game. He created it in a YMCA gym in Springfield, Massachusetts. His team of eighteen was divided into two teams of nine and then the peach baskets were nailed above their heads. Every time one would score a basket, the game was stopped for the janitor to get up on a ladder and retrieve the ball. Later on, the bottoms of the “hoops” were taken out and they became a (sort of) real basket.…

He rises up with his lanky frame, catches the brownish-orange sphere, then slams it through the basket with enough ferocity to bring down a small house. I felt as if he’d done it just to spite me as I sat on my couch, chips in hand. I couldn’t believe Kevin Durant had worn down the best player in the world, Lebron James, on the NBA’s biggest stage. Then I heard six dreadful words in my ear: “Who’s in your top five again?” This was a time my logical, objective outlook was really put to the test. I was forced to put aside my personal grievances with KD and, after seeing his dominant performance in the finals, put him in my top five players in the NBA.…

And to finish up that inning we just got a couple ground balls and we turned a double play. And for the next few innings nothing really happened both teams were struggling to hit. Now it's like the 5th inning and we have the top of our hitting order up so we had:Liam,Luke,Ryan,Alex as our 1,2,3,4 hitters. And we got a rally going and we scored a couple runs so at this point the score is 5-1 and we have the lead so then I go into the 6th inning to pitch and I can only do ⅔ of the inning so than Ryan comes in and pitches and to finish out the 7th Alex pitches a 3 strikeout inning. So the game was over and the presedent of the league gave me the game ball to keep and bring home and everyone on our team got a trophy to take home after we won we were all so happy that we won the championship because it was or a lot of people the first time they won something. The anticipation of knowing whether we were going to be champions or not was very high as we played our hearts out on the court. Everything we'd practiced for was being put to the test in this one moment. It all came down to this last lay-up. Did we get the point? When I was eleven years old I played recreational basketball with a nearby playground called Susan Park. Me and my little brother both were involved in almost every sport they offered. My favorites were volleyball and basketball. Going to practice was the highlight of my day. I really put my heart into these sports. Our basketball team this particular year was undefeated. As a post player and shooting guard there was a lot of pressure on me to get the ball to the goal at any cost and that's ultimately what I did in every game. It was our championship game and the heat was on like never before. Recruiters from the All-Stars team were there to watch us and pick their favorites so the pressure was definitely on for the players who were looking to take it to the next level. The game starts and we're all basically in the warm-up stage of the game we'd score, they'd score, nothing too intense. All of a sudden we start getting into the climax of the game, only about five minutes left. We were only two points away from beating them and it was up to one person on our team to step up and go for the game winning lay-up, that person was me. There were a few seconds left of the game and we still had to get up the court and to the goal. As the referee blew the whistle my heart sank but I knew what I had to do. The ball was passed to me and with no hesitation I ran down the court as if I was the only person out there and went up for the lay-up like a pro and I made it! This was definitely the best day of my life. The crowd rushed towards me and picked me up just like in the movies, I felt like a star! After the crowd and everything calmed down and came to an end a recruiter from the all-star…

After finishing my breakfast the game started and I was a starting point guard and i was also the jumper. I tipped the ball to my team we started with it. By the end of the first quarter we were up 12-0 with all points scored by me. In the second quarter we started with the ball and immediately scored on the other team. After scoring the immediate basket we all knew this quarter was going to be like the first one, a total blow out. We ended the second quarter 21-0 still with all points scored by me.…

I have always love to play basketball. The swish when you make it just right, and the boom of the basketball hitting the floor “are sounds I love”. When I first started playing basketball, my mom and my couch Richard knew that I was expectational. I played with Richard for a few years, then one day he told us about this newspaper ad he saw for a team named “Eugene Fire”. My mom decided to check it out, so she called the coach, Jim. He said I probably won't make the team, but I believed I could. So I would try anyways.…

I decided to advocate to the coach about my involvement in the practices as a player. As I walked into the hot and humid office of the coach, I waited until he was not as busy with his work. As the fan turned, he finally stopped what he was doing, “What’s up, Ariana?” the coach voiced. I explained my aspirations to play basketball. As I spoke, I watched his face, trying to get a sense of what he was thinking. After I stopped talking, I waited for his answer. He moved around as if it would help him figure out what to say when he knew his answer was…

Then I tripped out of bounds. After that I threw a pass to the other team. After a while of doing really bad I thought no one would like me because I was bad. Eventually I didn’t think it could be any worse but then I got packed and turned the ball over right at the end of the 2nd quarter. Finally it was halftime, a time I could cool down and redeem myself. After 15 minutes of talking, the 3rd quarter started and I made five three pointers in a row. Then I crossed a kid up and then shot a layup. All of a sudden I was actually doing well after halftime. After the game ended a boy on my team came up to me and asked if I wanted to hangout sometime.…

I couldn’t describe how I felt. I was astonished, I guess. We turned around, running to the other side of the court, and the crowd cheered again. Someone else made a basket too! This was the most exciting day of my life. I could feel my smile get the biggest and the brightest it had ever been. Then, I was guided to the other side of the court again and before I knew it I had made another basket. Sadly, and too soon, the game was over and everyone was cheering their heads off.…
