Personal Narrative: NBA Cheick Diallo
From Mali, to the NBA Cheick Diallo is proving basketball is a global sport
Cheick Diallo has always had NBA player written all over him. Whether it was in Kanas, or High School Diallo always had the eye of scouts, and the basketball world. His unique talent set has always been appealing to teams, when given minutes, he’s shown he can defend multiple positions, and play anywhere from shooting guard to center depending on the lineup. Despite his unlimited potential as a pro Diallo is struggling to find minutes on the New Orleans Pelicans. It’s not that he doesn’t have the ability to contribute he’s paying his dues in the NBA which is something all players must do.
“ I like the way he’s progressing and coming along, he’s a hard worker and I see improvements in his game everyday”, Head coach Alvin Gentry said.

In 2011 I played with the Mali National Team, and in 2012 I moved to New York.
We’re almost at the halfway mark to the season. The Pelicans had a rough start to the season. You guys aren't where many predicted you would be at in the standings. How would you assess the Pelicans season so far?
We’re not where we want to be as a team however, I feel great, and I’m so excited to be apart of the Pelicans.
College and High School players go through a lot. How did your life change after the NBA draft? My life is completely different, having finical stability and being able to support my family makes playing in the NBA worth it.
In your estimation, what’s the difference between college basketball, and the NBA?
In the NBA you take care of yourself, you have to do everything on your own, you can have freedom in the NBA, in college you don’t have too much of that.
Anthony Davis is a top 5 talent in the league. He can do almost everything on the court. What is like playing with someone who possesses that kind of
