Using technology in BPM can automate the processes to increase efficiency and effectiveness of any firm. Applying advanced technology tools can automate any complex processes and activities to make work easier. Moreover, it cannot be denied that technology is an important component of BPM since it plays an essential role in improving the processes to achieve organization’s objectives. It provides control on the process by management and allow top management and decision-makers to monitor and observe the performance on daily basis and give accurate reports in order to evaluate performance and services provided by the firm. I am working in Federal Electricity & Water Authority as a Connection Engineer. Following are two areas of development where BPM can serve effectively with well-planned use of technology. There are several procedures the request of electricity must complete prior supplying electricity such as electricity drawing approval, inspection result, materials delivery, etc. As a result, many customers come to follow up their requests.
The process of request tracking is not efficient, since I have to check the request status personally with all my department colleagues to see if they received such file. This process consumes time and effort besides having low customer’s satisfaction. To change this process, I suggest to apply BPM principles and then automate the current process by using an online system where request number can be entered to check its status and percentage of completion. In my opinion, the result will be satisfying since it will save time, effort, increase percentage of customer’s satisfaction and increase number of served customers per day. The agility of a company can be measured by its capability to react immediately to uncertain events and bring necessary changes to its processes to make them more effective.
