Period 6, Mrs. Ochoa Animal Abuse

Animal cruelty is a very severe issue. It happens all over the world, it can happen to any kind of animal, A farm animal, a pet, or even a wildlife animal. People tend to think that animals can be treated in a bad way because they aren’t “humans.” An animal is supposed to be treated as anyone would be treated in a good way and respectfully, they do have feelings just like we all do. Although animals aren’t human beings we all have the right to be treated equally. Animal abusers should be punished in a very serious manner; there should be consequences for mistreating an animal. Animal cruelty can either be deliberate abuse or simply the failure to take care of an animal. I believe that animals are very similar to we humans, they feel and have emotions, thus they shouldn’t be mistreated or abused, rather be treated with love and respect. It was on this belief that the ASPCA was founded in 1866. The first anti-cruelty law was passed after their founding. “…..I have developed a deep respect for animals. I consider them fellow living creatures with certain rights that should not be violated any more than those of humans.” (Stewart)…

The ASPCA believes that the successful prosecution of animal cruelty offenders should include fines, jail sentences, and counseling to prevent additional acts of cruelty ( Guiding Principles, 2016). They believe that the people who commit criminal acts toward animals should get a punishment that will match the offense. The assumption that they are making is that there is a correlation between animals and human violence. The are also assuming that if someone is abusive to animals, then they are abusive to humans as well. This is not a fair assumption. There are certain people who have criminal pasts and they find a new start in life by taking care of pit bulls or horses. Animals can help them become better humans. As well as helping them learn love and…

The first time I heard about the topic “Animal Abuse” come up was really sad. PETA came to one of the livestock shows and were trying to tell us what we were doing wrong, but in reality we were treating the animals with love and respect. I have participated in all of these events and have seen how the animals get treated. I believe there is nothing wrong with the way they get treated. Most animals actually get treated better than some humans do. There are many society practices that people believe are cruel to animals but are not. Rodeos, showing livestock, and factory farms do not show animal cruelty.…

I am so sick of hearing cases on the news, like "Man from Atlanta is facing penalties in Georgia in which a puppy was cooked in an oven" or "Brothers in Atlanta are being charged for putting a puppy in a gas range and turning the gas on." Animal cruelty is one of the most common types of violence in the United States. It is not as accustomed to hear such heartbreaking cases as these. Some of the most common forms of animal cruelty are: Animal testing and experimentation in laboratories, lack of owners care and attention, and using animals as a way of entertainment. Now, lets take a closer look at these three forms of animal cruelty.…

Animal abuse is a topic that most people are aware of in this day and age. But to clarify this is not going to be a speech appealing to the pity of Sarah McLachlan's song during animal cruelty commercials. Believe me this topic is truly sad, but its gets worse when you look into the current problems. I will elaborate on what is currently being done. The SPCA is a very large benefactor in stopping animal abuse as many of you probably know by their numerous commercials asking for donations and public awareness but they cannot take this entire burden on their shoulders alone. The type of animal abuse I would like talk about is specific to farm animals. This is a particular topic that many people do not consider. The example i am going to use first is the life of a cow and then elaborate on chickens. A female cow on a dairy farm is repetitively impregnated, again, and again for the production of milk. Hundreds of cows residing on thousands of dairy farms across america are artificially inseminated to constantly produce milk for our consumption. After a time of nine months the cow gives birth to a calf, within hours or a day the calf is taken from the mom and transported to a veal…

“The world is a dangerous place, not because of those who do evil, but because of those who look on and do nothing”-Albert Einstein. Abuse towards animals occurs when humans cause harm to animals intentionally or unintentionally. Animal Cruelty during the Victorian Era is similar to the present day because people beat animals as punishment. However in the present day more people are hoarding animals as a result of being emotionally troubled rather than having a criminal motive, and people have started to stand up against abusive behavior towards animals.…

Animal abuse is when someone inflicts pain or harm upon an animal such as not giving them their basic needs (food and water) to beating them. In between 5 and 7 million animal companions enter an animal shelter nationwide, every year (www.aspca.org), and within 50 miles of Hayward, CA, there are 170 animal cruelty cases reported (www.pet-abuse.com). Imagine what these innocent beings that cannot speak out to let the human know they are in pain feel. Animals need us to speak out and help reduce their suffering instead of making their lives worse. Animal safety needs to be improved by creating more laws to protect animals from harm. Animal cruelty is shaped by two forms of abuse, different types of animal abuse, opinions on how animal cruelty happens, organizations that help fight for animal rights, and ways to report it.…

An organization called the Animal Legal Defense Fund has sponsored a petition that raises the awareness and calls for increased protection for the rights of animals. An excerpt from the petition briefly touches on how “animals are defenseless against exploitation and abuse by humans.” Alongside, it also informs us the objective of the petition that “through the Animal Bill of Rights, the Animal Legal Defense Fund is working to show Congress a groundswell of support for legislation that protects animals and recognizes that, like all sentient beings, animals are entitled to basic legal rights in our society.” In our society today, animals are brutally abused, treated unfairly, neglected or have experiments conducted on them. This bill is pushing for a basic set of rights aimed at animals to protect them, although many people disagree. The petition, I believe, could change a lot in the world today. I agree with the defense fund of passing this petition for animal rights and that all animals should be treated as equal as humans. The Animal Bill of Rights can stop animals from being abused, experimented on, and innocently dying.…

Animal cruelty has been a problem for many years, but also a major topic all over the United States. Over the years there has been people who have been trying to stop the cruelty to of these innocent animals. For example, Peter Singer and his book Animal Liberation, which caused the movement in 1975 to experience a veritable organizational explosion ( Beers 3). Just imagine how many animals are fighting for their life because of their heartless owners who believe it is okay for them to treat an animal aggressively as if their life didn’t matter. These animals are neglected, beaten, and are forced to survive. Animals should receive the same respect as humans. They are capable of thinking and feeling just the same way we do, so they deserve respect. These animals shouldn’t have to feel pain, which is caused by humans. Animals are not stones, they are able to feel and suffer (Cohen 3). Animal right consists of cruel and unusual abuse to another living being in the United States, because of them being used for experiments, getting killed for their fur and being used in fights.…

Animal abusers are heartless people who don’t deserve to live life with their crimes unnoticed. Lisa Weisberg, senior vice president of government affairs for the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals says, "If you treat animal abuse as a $50 fine and a slap on the wrist, people won't take it very seriously” (Kenna 1). Charging the abusers only a small fine is just not strict enough. This form of punishment does not fit the crime or prevent it from happening again. American people need to recognize animal abuse as the serious crime that it is and the consequences of these actions. The United States should establish a national animal abuse registry in order to decrease acts of animal abuse.…

Animal cruelty can be anywhere and done by anyone. Many people think of animals, especially cats and dogs, as disposable. They get a puppy for the children for Christmas only to realize it is a lot of work that the children are not ready for. They forget to feed and water it, don 't take it for walks, and don 't take it outside to use the bathroom. The solution, abandon it or just take it to the humane society. They 'll get another when the kids are older. An animal that is used to being taken care of by humans cannot fend for itself when it is dumped. It slowly starves or gets attacked by other animals. Many people will shoot stray animals with bbs to chase them away from their property. The animal becomes hurt or aggressive…
