The post war changes in society’s views on disability (due to the disabled veterans returning home) renewed the interest of the needs of the developmentally disabled population. The new law and regulations were established to protect and promote a greater access to education. With introduction and implementation of IDEA all children with disabilities are entitled to FAPE. It is painfully recognizable that the cultural and religious beliefs influenced the diagnosis, treatment and acceptance of children with developmental disabilities.
