Autism is classified as a neurodevelopmental disorder that affects 1 in 500 people. It impairs three main areas of human development. The three areas are speech, communication, and social interactions. All impairments can range from mild to severe. Some symptoms include lack of awareness of feelings of others and the expression of emotion, such as laughing or crying. People with autism also insist on following routines and resisting change. Rain Man is a story about the relationship between two brothers, one being Autistic. The story line follows the as they drive across the country and their interaction as the one brother (Charlie) tries to deal with being thrust into a twenty-four hour a day week long journey and his first exposure to someone with Autism, his brother Raymond. Charlie Babbit is a younger guy who is involved in some high-risk exotic car sales when he realizes that he might not be able to make his bank notes on time. Charlie's father dies and leaves him with a car and some roses, while some unnamed beneficiary receives the remaining three million dollars the estate is worth. Charlie finds out from the bank that the trustee works at a mental hospital and group home, he goes to visit and tries to work a deal so he can get his half of estate and pay off his bank notes. When he arrives at the home he finds out that he has a brother that he never knew. Raymond, his brother, is Autistic and is a Savant, for his ability to memorize and recall all information he has read or heard before. He can also count and do math at astonishing rates. Charlie kidnaps Raymond and demands his share of the three million. So Charlie takes Raymond back to LA with him, on the way from Ohio to LA Charlie somehow changes his attitude towards his brother Raymond and in the end he wants to take care of him. At the end Charlie realizes that he can't care for Raymond because of his Autism, but he still cares deeply for Raymond and vows to visit often.

    Charlie Babbit; a self centered man who had only cared about himself in the movie "Rain Man". Charlie was very materialistic and cared deeply about money, money and more money. He had recently bought foreign cars that he was trying to sell through his business, but first he had to get them approved through the EPA. To fix these cars, Charlie had to take out bank loans which came with interest and a time limit. With days passing on without Charlie selling his vehicles, he recieves a call and becomes informed that his father had just passed away. Charlie didn't have much of a relationship with his father, or let alone anyone for that matter. Later, Charlies goes and discusses with a lawyer what is left behind in his father's will. The only thing that Charlie's father had left behind for him was the rose bushes and his convertible car, which they had previously fought about. When the lawyer and Charlie had talked about what else was left in the will, Charlie is informed that his father had left someone, a trusty, three million dollars. Charlie was irate that his father did not leave him anything of "value", so he was determined to go find the person who has now inherited three million dollars. Charlie does some research and it leads him to a community institution called Walbrooke. Once he had arrived to his destination he learns that the man who had just gained three million dollars is his brother, Raymond. It takes a while until Charlie discovered that Ray is his brother. When he had first met Ray he planned to take him back home and convince him to have at least half of the money his father left behind, but they go through a long journey together and it becomes something much more than wanting money. When Charlie had first met Ray he was very mentally abusive towards him. Charlie had always referred to him as an idiot and never understood the things he did. In their journey back to Los Angeles, Raymond nearly drives Charlie crazy with the maddening characteristics that are a function of his autism While, Raymond has a profound influence on Charlie, and so Charlie finally grows to love and accept his brother exactly as he is.
