Auggie By August Pullm Chapter Summary
August Pullman is a 10 year old boy in the 6th grade being home-schooled by his mother. Auggie does not want to go to public school because of his face, but his parents decide to enroll him in Beecher Prep; a private middle school in upper Manhattan. Auggie visits Beecher Prep and meets the principal of Beecher Prep, Mr. Tushman, along with three other students: Jack Will, Julian Albans, and Charlotte Cody. He becomes friends with Jack as well as a girl named Summer Dawson, who sits with him during lunch when no one else would sit next to Auggie. However, Julian does not hide his disgust for Auggie's appearance. Julian avoids him and often makes hurtful remarks to Auggie. He bullies Auggie and hates him for the way he looks.

Jack also realizes that Auggie also heard that he was pretending to be friends with him. In science class, Auggie and Jack were assigned to be partners for a project. Julian wants to be partners with Auggie because he is really smart so he asks the teacher if he could be Jack's partner instead, and Jack declines. Julian gets mad and calls Auggie a "freak”, and Jack punches Julian in the face. Jack was suspended for two days, but Julian did not tell Mr. Tushman what happened because he would get in trouble for talking bad about Auggie. His classmates give him a standing ovation, and take pictures with them. Which Auggie thought was out of the ordinary because they never wanted to. They celebrate and go back to Auggie’s house. In the end of the party Auggie’s mother whispers into his ear and says, "You really are a wonder, Auggie. You are a wonder."
The setting takes place in New York City, New York. It where Auggie lives in present day upper Manhattan New York City. Where Auggie’s school Beecher Prep is located within walking distance from his house.
