Chapter I
Introduction

Project Context In our life today, computer is one of the many inventions that greatly affected our way of living. In fact, it is regarded as an essential tool in many areas including business, industry, government, sciences, education, school, home, and in almost any organization and establishment that exists. It can perform operation and process data rapidly, accurately and reliably and by using these machines, spending a lot of time and effort in doing certain task is minimized. One amazing device gaining popularity nowadays is the biometric system. It resulted from the collaboration of multiple scientific fields which attempted to automate human recognition based on a unique physical attribute. Currently, a person can be identified by multitude of different metrics including their fingerprints. A sensor is used to capture and store it in an electronic format. This information can be used later to identify or authenticate a person to a system. Attendance Monitoring System using Biometric Fingerprint Scanner is a system that manages and monitors the attendance of an employee in a certain establishment. It serves as a time log that is set up as a computerized database. It maintains a daily record of a person's arrival and departure time from work or school. This study is conducted for the enhancement of the existing manual attendance monitoring system in form of a fully developed computerized attendance monitoring system of the La Salette of Ramon High School Department and is intended to be used by the institution’s administrators, members of the faculty and staff.

Purpose and Description
This study entitled “A Proposed Study of Attendance Monitoring System using Biometric Scanner” is intended to develop an attendance monitoring system to be used inside the school vicinity of La Salette of Ramon High School Department for better management of employees.

Biometrics (MSU, 2012) refers to the automatic identification of a person based on his/her multiple scientific fields. One of which is his anatomical (e.g. fingerprint, iris) characteristics of traits. A biometric system made use of a fingerprint scanner, a sensor that employs the user to be present to enroll in the system so that his biometric template or reference can be captured. This template is securely stored in a central database or smart card issued to the user. The template is used for matching when an individual needs to be identified. Depending on the context, a biometric system can operate either in verification (authentication) or an identification mode. Thus, the identification mode of…

Based on business management software, the proponents looked at surface aspects of how modern management information systems help businesses. The researcher’s saw how computers speed up and improved the quality of operations. The proponents also mentioned the existence of broad categories of business software - office suites, functional software such as accounting and inventory, and industry software such as retail management software. In this research, the proponents seek to look more analytically at the role of information management systems. The idea to use Biometrics as primary attendance monitoring will improve in compiling an accurate attendance monitoring for their staff’s in an easier way. In addition to the this study the proponents added a hardware that will help and simplify the transactions between their staff’s in their daily time records which would help the company in computing and having an accurate computations on the staff’s attendance and payrolls.…

The proposed topic “Biometric Fingerprint Scan Log In/Log Out with Payroll System for FH Commercial Inc.” will be created using Code Gear Delphi2010 and Seagate Crystal Report. The Payroll System will be connected with the Biometric Fingerprint Scanner. The scanner, aside from providing accurate and efficient monitoring of the employees’ time and attendance, will also make payroll computation faster. The computerized payroll system will take care of the automatic payroll computations segregating deductibles like PhilHealth contributions, SSS Premiums and SSS Loans, PAG-IBIG Fund, Withholding Tax, and deductions due to absences and for reporting late at work in which the deduction depends on the time the employees log in.…

In this phase, the proponents gathered information in the form of interview with the help of the Sydney Hotel manager Mr. Elmar Fabiala. Though he was busy to accommodate the request for an interview, he asked Mr. Erwin Genotiva, IT Head, to entertain the queries of the researchers. The interview that happened last January 12, 2013 and January 15, 2013 was conducted upon the availability of the interviewee. After gathering data, the researchers brainstormed and summarized the given information and had identified the requirements of the system to be built. The study will only focus on the attendance monitoring system of the hotel and not the system of the hotel as a whole. In order for the proponents to come up with the best output, the researchers also conducted an actual intervention/ observation on the hotel. This was to observe how the current attendance monitoring system of the hotel behaves. Through this activity the researchers were able to determine…

In this paper we review the various computerized system which is being developed by using different techniques. Based on this review a new approach for employee attendance is proposed by using biometric device to be used for various schools or academic institutes. Biometric technologies is the fingerprint recognition system; by placing a finger on the scanner, it allows the person to time in or out and ensures that employees cannot time in for one another, thereby preventing employee time theft. In other words, instead of requiring personal identification cards, keys or passwords of other person, biometrics can identify fingerprints of an individual for easy and convenient verification.…

BIOMETRIC IN SCHOOLSIf Attendance is Troubling You, Please Raise Your HandStudent attendance is a growing concern in many cities. Modern schools are faced with growing classroom sizes and find it increasingly difficult to ensure that students are arriving at the school or to particular classes on time. Most schools rely on handwritten attendance records and have no way to centralize or share data. Add multiple buildings or offsite classes to the mix, and attendance becomes even more difficult to monitor. What if there were a way to monitor student attendance for one or more physical sites, and make the attendance data available in real time through a central database? PeopleKey has the answer.…

Money is not a thing that you could find anywhere when you need it. It is about hard work to have money. Parents were the ones who work hard to be able to send their children into different respective or even prestige schools, from elementary, high school and college to be particular. They would take the risk of investing their money just to assure the quality education of their children. But what if there is not a problem with the school? What if the student itself has a problem? Attendance in school is a must; fifty percent of a student’s grades were usually based on their class participation and if the students are absent, they will miss a lot of points. Parents has no assurance if their children go straightly go to school, they will know it when it is too late like when they got a letter or a call from the school telling them that their children might fail or repeat a specific subject or worse, another year for them to suffer. To give an alternative solution unto it, the researcher introduced this I.D (Identification) which has a barcode in it and a barcode scanner with automated texting system. This can help parents know that their children go into school and also, the system notifies them if the students go out of the school. It could help prevent the students to cut class or skip school, also, it changes the traditional way of securing the students. The fact that the parents know that their children we’re released by the school, they know what time their children could go home.…

Time is a special resource that you cannot store or save for later use. Everyone has the exact same amount of time each day. Time not well used cannot be retrieved. Most people feel like they have too much to do and not enough time. They blame lack of time for their poor finances, unachieved goals, stress, bad relationships and not exercising their body. Wise time management can help you find the time for what you desire to do or need to do. You need time to get what you want out of life. Waiting for more free time to appear is losing the game of life. Through time management you can “create” the time you need, and not just wait for it to come. By planning your time wisely, you will have more time to do more things. You can learn to find the time for the things that are important to you. Even a small amount of time once a day, or even once a week, will take you closer to your goals, and you will be surprised at the progress you make. You become more productive using improved time management skills and tools, and can accomplish more with less effort and time. Time management can help you reduce wasted time and energy, help you become more creative and productive, and enable you to do the right thing at the right time. This will of course lead to more balance and fulfillment in your life. Working time is the period of time that an individual spends at paid occupational labor. Unpaid labors such as housework are not considered part of the working week. Many countries regulate the work week by law, such as stipulating minimum daily rest periods, annual holidays and a maximum number of working hours per week. Impact on system domain or impact on domain functionality, the risks between implementations and there. Ideally the monitoring is a tiny fraction of each applications footprint, requiring simplicity. The monitoring function must be highly tunable to allow for such issues as network performance, improvements…
