1) Importance operations management for prêt a manger
Operations management is imperative for any business organizations since it controls the heart of any corporation- its operations. Operations management is management of designing, operating and improving systems that are responsible for creating and delivering the organization’s main products and services. Akin to the marketing and financial management, operations management too is a functional unit of management and has clear objectives.
Prêt a manger is a popular fast food chain of UK and is often promoted by the media to have revolutionized the concept of sandwich making and eating.
The company which opened its first shop in 1980 and has now more than 130 shops globally, stresses on quality as the main component of all its operations practices. The company guarantees freshness of all its food products and no preservatives are used. In a business in which quality and freshness of food is the main component of business operations, employment of operations management is essential in each thread of the business operations. According to Hill (2012), a company employs operations management for ensuring and sustaining efficiency and effectiveness in the organizations Efficiency in Prêt a manger is related to the efficiently using resources like human resources and inputs, regardless the purpose of their employment in the firm. For instance the team members who serve people at the lunch time may be making the lunch in the same morning.
The company does not cut costs by having a centralised factory but instead its operations management is focussed on full utilization of its human resources for efficient service and high quality product. For this purpose operations management helps the company to manage all its shops centrally so that productivity and effectiveness can be monitored. Operations management is also important for ensuring that
