Assignment 1 of 4 1
Describe the type of business, purpose and ownerships of 2 contrasting businesses.

I have been asked by my lecturer, Jo Chapman, to produce a report on the differences types of business ownerships of two contrasting organisations. For the purposes of this report, I will look at the different types of ownerships of Tesco and NSPCC. I will also investigate the purpose, sector and liability of both organisations.

Tesco
The purpose of Tesco is to make a profit and provide a service and sell their products to the customers. Tesco’s is a public limited company. A public limited company is when shares are bought publicly and you will not have to be invited to purchases. Since people purchase Tesco’s merchandise publicly they are classed as a public limited company. Tesco is in the tertiary sector in business. The tertiary sector is when a business provides a service to individuals or businesses. As Tesco provides a service to the customers and sell their products they are therefore placed in the tertiary sector in business. Tesco is classed as a limited liability business. A limited liability is when the business is not entirely responsible for the debt of the whole business. Tesco only pay for their expenses for the business therefore they are classed as a limited liability business.

NSPCC
The purpose of NSPCC is to help children who’ve been abused to rebuild their lives, protect children at risk, and find the best ways of preventing child abuse. NSPCC is a charity as they are helping the people in this case the children, NSPCC being a charity, the staff volunteer to work for the business, the business is classed as a not for profit organisation and any profit made within the business goes towards the charity. NSPCC is in the tertiary sector in business as it provides a service to the customers. Finally, NSPCC is a limited liability company so they are not entirely responsible for the debts made within the business.

Tesco is an international Public Limited Company. Tesco has over 500,00 employees in 12 countries. Under the Tesco Group there are a number of sister companies such as Tesco Ireland, Tesco Poland and Tesco Lotus. In addition, Tesco offers other services such as Tesco Bank which is also a part of the organisation. [1] From my research, it states that Tesco is a part of the tertiary sector as it is retailing by selling a range of products from groceries to electronics. Tesco also offers services such as loans with Tesco Bank .In my opinion it’s also is a part of the secondary sector . For example, Tesco bakes fresh bread on site and then sells in its sorts so therefore it is a part of both of these sectors. Additionally Tesco has its own Mobile Network which offers Pay as you go and Pay Monthly options. You can also buy mobile devices such as the iPhone 5C. [2]…
