The Aryan Brotherhood originated in San Quentin prison in 1967 and was originally, established to provide protection for White individuals from Black and Hispanic gangs found in San Quentin. “In the beginning, the AB had one true purpose, to stop blacks and Mexicans from abusing whites.” (Ferranti). All though their numbers are small their eagerness for violence and a no back down mentality has earned them the reputation of one of the worst prison gangs in America. Coupled with their motto “blood in, blood out” their initiation customs which involve “if you wanted to join, all you had to do was to kill, or attempt to kill, a black or Mexican inmate.” (Ferranti) are some of the most violent in the gang arena.
