Art Essay
For the past few weeks we have been focusing more on the principles of design including value, texture, and space. So instead of watching more of the outlines I draw I have been looking at the shading and details I can put into my drawings. I have found that this can make my drawings way better than I could have even imagined. Allow me to explain how I have used the new techniques of drawing we have learned with negative space, sighting, and mapping out when I am drawing. First when we outlined I found it very helpful. When you outline you can see the main lines of what you have to draw. Also if you have to draw within two days it really helps to outline first. We were also taught about negative space. I didn’t really understand how that would help my drawings, but when I realized that the space outside of the main object that I’m drawing is actual shapes I could understand and see it in a different light. In the still life drawing of the chair and plant we had to draw the negative space first. I later, after the drawing was finished, could see the shapes that the negative space made. We also used our pencils to find angles and use to scale or map out our drawings. I found this very helpful. We have done many drawings the past weeks. I have felt that I have been excelling in these drawings and sketches. Last week we had two class periods to draw a space in the art room. In my opinion this is one of my better drawings. We also just recently did a hand drawing which showed perspective. I found that this drawing succeeded because of the shading. This is my area of success but can sometimes be tricky. Now not all of my drawings were a success. I struggle with many aspects of all my drawings. I have a problem with being able to get the depth and perspective just right. I think this is problem because I already have an idea of what it should look like but it may not be in that perspective or have that depth. I also forget about color when I draw. When I draw
