Arianna's Performance Assessment
Arianna’s test performance and emotional/social status was the focus of this evaluation due to a concern with her performance in her Math class. Her personality information was gathered from a parent and a student interview, test results, and behavioral observations during the administration of her cognitive and achievement assessments and her interview. Her responses during the interview were that of a typically developing seven year old in the first grade. She seemed to be able to explain her responses while she was thinking through the answers and she was able to explain rules and expectations. Arianna appears to be confident in most situations; for example, when she has a correct answer or she did well on a school assignment she was able …show more content…
In that moment Arianna will get upset and avoid the issue. Emphasis should be placed on how to develop Arianna’s problem solving abilities, especially as it relates to her Math academic abilities. She lacks the ability to stay motivated when she is tasked with problems that she does not understand. For example, during testing the difficulty level, of the question, would increase, and as it increased she would begin to avoid answering some of the questions. Another example of Arianna evading problem solving happens when she gets in trouble at home. She walks away talking underneath her breath. Opportunities for development in problem solving areas and personal attention when learning a new task will be helpful to increase her self-perception of her abilities. For example, when Arianna has gotten herself into a problem a written contract with listing of his goal and accomplishments can be created to help her think through the situation. Positive reinforcement and the development of her problem solving skills, including math related help should provide the necessary tools to help Arianna increase her Math …show more content…
On a scrap piece of paper or a learning log she should draw a number line. The number line will serve as visual guidance in case she forgets which way she needs to count. The scrap paper will also help Arianna check her answers when completing homework and in-class assignments. Another option for the number line is a visual representation complete by drawing symbols for each of the number and either adding or subtracting the appropriate amount. This recommendation is suited for Arianna because of her visual spatial performance scores. She understands visual representations of objects and this can assist her when it comes to completing math related
