Argumentative Essay: The Four-Day Weekend By Law
'The three-day weekend by law.'

Lower transportation costs. Less money spent on facilities and overhead. Increased teacher and student attendance. And...higher test scores? New research suggests, perhaps that the four-day school week not only doesn't hurt student achievement, but seems to help!
The four-day school week has some appeal when budgets are tight, especially in rural districts where students and teachers may travel a long way to get to school. In America schools in 17 states have four-day school weeks, which usually entail longer school days in order to meet instructional hour requirements. In Colorado, for instance, more than a third of districts use the shorter week. So in England why can't we have the shorter week?
I will tell you why! It's the government, the lot of them, they're all stubborn,

Less stress equals better health, and less diseases. People live longer. It benefits society. Less people using doctors and hospital emergency rooms. Less heart attacks.

3. It's already being done in places around the world. Instead of 9 to 5 x5Days, it's 8 to 6 x4Days. A lot of time is wasted in traffic on getting to work. You can save 3 hours a week in getting to work, and preparing for work, but doing the work of 5 days in 4 days.

4. And quite frankly, even at 9 to 5 x4 days instead of 9 to 5 x5 days, the same amount of work can be accomplished. An old saying goes that 80% of the work is done in 20% of the time. If there is less time, you can get the same amount of work completed. Just increase efficiency.

5. Most important, life is about enjoying oneself, and not about survival. Humans should have lots of time for leisure and play. A life without play is a meaningless and robotic existence.
In the words of Albert Camus: 'Freedom is nothing but a chance to be better.'
And in the words of Nelson Mandela: 'For to be free is not merely to cast off one's chains, but to live in a way that respects and enhances the freedom of

4 vs 5 Day School Week

Schools looking to save energy and money investigate the four-day school week as a possible solution because although it probably would not use up less energy, it would certainly help in saving some money. One issue with saving energy is that on the fifth day, most schools would still remain open for sporting events, community gatherings, tutoring or other extracurricular activities (Work). The schools would save money on the wages of the cafeteria workers and bus drivers who were not needed on Fridays (Work). However, those people would be angry because that is how they make their living and take care of their families. Cutting salaries could negatively affect the standard of living for the area, making it less appealing to new families.…

“The only way to deal with an unfree world is to become so absolutely free that your very existence is an act of rebellion.” (“Albert Camus Quotes”) Albert Camus famously quoted this to state that to be truly free from an unfair place, you must be so free that doing anything will be a rebellious act against the government. Both Chris McCandless and Mahatma Gandhi displayed rebellious acts through their lives.…

A reduction in school financial cost may be a great factor considered when moving to a four-day school week. Transportation costs are reduced, as well as utility costs to the school. It would save a lot of money, especially in rural districts. Money would also be saved by the reduction in use of electricity and by not paying the employees for the fifth day of the week. Researchers report that districts implementing a four-day week have found savings on utilities, school buses, cafeteria programs, long-term building wear and tear, as well as, the pay for substitute teachers. In their evaluation of the implementation of a four-day week in Webster County, KY, Yarbrough and Gilman report savings amounting to two percent of the school system’s budget.…

If there is a busy schedule between both parents during the day, Fridays off for students will help parents work and not worry about their kids if their kids were to go to a family member's house or sleep over a friend's house. Parents will save money if students go to their family or friends house instead of the parents hiring a baby sitter. A four day school week may come in handy if you have the entire Friday off to schedule appointments with doctors or dentists. If there was a Friday a student was taken out of school to go to the dentist, but the dentist was packed, he would be late to go back to school. Four day school weeks may alter that a little, say on a normal Friday, that the dentist would be full of students, but if there was no school on Friday, then there would be any line to wait in, and no rush to get back to school before school is over. The other upside of having Fridays off is that parents can do errands with out interruptions. If students have Fridays off, they can go to a friend's house so that their parents can run errands without interruption. According to Jami Dow, a mother who moved to Hot Springs, South Dakota ( a district that has a four day school week) three years ago to be closer to her parents, said, "Many families use the extra day to schedule doctor and dentist…

Freedom is something that has been rebelled against for many, many years. This is a recurring motif in the short story "Dancing Bear" by Guy Vanderhaeghe. Rebellion for the sake of freedom is worth everything, even death. Dieter Bethge rebels against the rules of Mrs Hax, his own ill body, and his mind.…

The stress level from kids now going through a traditional school year is at an all time high. In the article, The Four-Day School Week by, Don Kordosky it states, “Each school day is comprised of many activities that have no direct positive correlation to student academic achievement,” and “All of this “non-instructional time” on Fridays is eliminated and that time can be changed to instructional time on the other remaining four days” (Crosscut). These quotes show that when making the change students will get more learning time due to the fact that all the time that there was no learning in action will be taken out. There's even more benefits when switching to a four day school…

Another great reason why we should have a 4 day weekend is a dramatic decrease in the cost of utility. Schools in Georgia saved an average of $800,000 on utility since there is a less need of transportation going back and forth from academy classes, and to drive students back and forth from school. From the slightest of restrooms being flushed, trim of transportation, and janitorial costs the school would save a dramatic amount of money and find the extra funds they need to fund school sports or school clubs if needed.…
