Argumentative Essay: Should Kids Have Less Homework?
Did you ever think that you had way too much homework? Studies say you are right; in August, 2015, CNN news found that students had too much homework. There are a lot of different reasons why kids should have less homework. Kids should have less homework because sitting down and learning from books is not the only thing that people have to do in life.. There are many ways that kids need to learn and grow besides learning from books.

Doing two to three hours of homework a night, after sitting for about five of the six and a half hours of school, creates unneeded stress and anxiety for most students--especially young and growing students with lots of energy. Some children do bad things to themselves because they are stressed in life with too much work. The Chicago Tribune says that kids work all day at school. After they go to school they get assigned homework to do after as even more work. Kids should not have to do more work after a long day of school.

Kids need time to play, relax, and learn in other ways besides sitting down and working on schoolwork. Kids also learn really well through exploration and direct experience like exploring in nature or playing sports at the park. In my personal experience,I have to stay up until 10:00 P.M. to 11:30 P.M. doing homework. Researchers say that kids don’t need to work in

When kids have too much homework, they can’t spend time with family and friends. One homework expert said that for each number in a grade (kindergarten is equivalent to zero) there should be 10 minutes of homework. The higher a grade gets the more hard work and study goes into a good enough grade. Some children have trouble doing homework when there are so many other things they want to do. Kids don’t need an extra load of work after they have gone to school. They need to spend time with family and friends because they love these people and need to connect with them to have a fun

Moreover, homework isn't only wasting the student's time but the teachers time as well. By marking and grading homework, teachers are wasting their time. So teachers, please don't blame us the we wasted your time. Some people assume that homework is useful for teachers to watch student's progress but I firmly believe that homework is sent home to test the parents, not the children. I think that teachers can watch the student's progress in school better because teachers don't know that at home who did the homework, the parent, the student or the internet (Google)??????? People also think that homework helps parents to understand that the school holds high goals for students. But, I consider that school work is harder than homework and that means that parents can understand that the school holds higher goals than they think. Furthermore, homework becomes terrible if no one can help you. If no one can help you then you are doing work that you don’t understand, and if you don’t understand it what’s the point having the work that you can’t even do. I really, strongly believe that more kids would stay in school and have a better learning experience if they did not have the stress of homework.…

How are they supposed to complete hours worth of homework, as well as complete other activities that they are committed to? And on top of that, the student is expected to have at least 8 hours of sleep per day. Homework is preventing students from leading an active lifestyle, which therefore is harmful to their bodies. According to Stats Canada, about 72% of parents found that homework was often a source of household stress (Survey of Canadian Attitudes toward Learning). That is due to the fact that students are put under great pressure from teachers and parents. Unnecessary assignments could raise the stress level of the student, which can potentially lower productivity and performance, rather than raise it. Distress, which is stress that continues without relief, can lead to symptoms such as headaches, migraines, and high blood…

Homework doesn't take all day; realistically you will have time for other things. Homework allows practice for future endeavors, and teaches responsibility and organization skills. Homework allows children to work at their own pace, without peer pressure and afraid of falling behind during class. Homework allows time to study for tests, and go over work that you did in class. Reason being yes I understand that different classes have different papers and some have more worksheets than others but…

To begin with, homework is taking way family time and fun time from students. Because students get a lot of homework they no longer have time to spend time with their family or have their own free time. For instance, in the article titled “5 Reasons Why Homework is Bad for Your Child,” the author states, “Children need time to spend with their family, catch up with friends and attend extracurricular activities so they can refresh their minds and bodies.” The reasons that are stated in the article specifically, are examples of how homework takes away family time. School is supposed to only take up to 6 hours but with homework it no longer take 6 hours of school work but more. Therefore, students don’t have enough time to do there own things.…

Finally, homework is very demanding on kids. “In most U.S schools, homework has become more demanding and time-consuming (scope magazine, pages 20-21, lines 33-35). Studies have shown that most kids feel very stressed about schoolwork and homework. There is a lot of pressure to do well in school. Some kids feel like “if they don’t get help from their parents, they will be at a competitive disadvantage with classmates who do.” (scope magazine, pages 20-21, lines 69-72).…

Whether it be because the kids are not getting their homework done and getting in trouble, or them learning to cheat. Having homework can cause stress on the kids that have a lot to do. They might have sports to go alongside their piles of homework. They learn to cheat off friends in order to manage their homework. In the article it states that when kids have a lot to do and little time to do it, they find alternative ways to do things to get them done faster. The main way they usually end up finding is to cheat of friends. (“5 Reasons Kids Need Homework and 5 Reasons They Don't”). Not only is cheating a bad thing, it also leads to all kinds of bad habits like laziness and lying. And when they do not get caught, they feel rewarded for something they did not do, encouraging more cheating. Home work does not increase overall scores of each class. In the article it states, “Researchers at the University of Virginia’s Curry School of Education found in a 2012 study that math and science homework didn’t correlate to better student grades, but it did lead to better performances on standardized tests. And when homework is assigned, the help provided by parents often mitigated any of the positive effects of the work. Critics of this type of parental involvement say it can be counterproductive because parents may assume too great a role and/or may not fully understand the lessons being taught” (Graham). This research shows that having homework is counterproductive because the parents end up doing too much of the homework for the kids. Also, the study shows that the overall grades of the kids did not increase. The other side of this argument may argue that they increased scores on standardized tests, but that does not matter when their grades are still not increasing. Stress can be a major problem for tots at a young age. When it comes to stress, 70% of students said they were often stressed…

According to another reading I’ve found out that most students do curriculum activities once they get out of school which are usually probably from 5:00 pm to maybe 8:00. And when you get home at around 4:45 every day you only have about twenty minutes to get ready to leave out again. There just isn’t enough time of day to have school for eight hours then spend another hour or two doing homework.…
