The most sygnificant, is the energy saving's that put into place when have DST. This is an argument that Ben Franklin had 200 years ago! Thus, Mr. Fanklin "touted the idea of DST to France back in 1784." (DST in America) Again, the argument began in the 70's; a 1% savings was recorded. Following, a cleaner air quality, Americans were not using as much electricity. Furthermore, not using the central air-conditioning,…
Two companies, Newyear and Michelin, are using Both of these commercials to sell a certain brand of tires and using fear to do it. These companies use different types of rhetoric to evoke a response from all types of audiences. Using rhetoric like appealing to someone's emotions is a tactic that both of these companies are doing to sell their product.…
I realize that it is opposite of the manner in which this school had begun, but it seems as though we have little choice. We already have a faculty unit that is looking to form a union due to the budget crisis, we should probably consider coming back to them with a better long-term plan in place.…
Time is a valuable necessity that is not meant to be wasted for we do not have the power to extend or shorten it. As such, the issue of time management has appeared to be a problem for many people in the United States and other parts of the world. In the twentieth century, the United States adopted a new schedule for managing time also known as daylight savings. This new system would put clocks back an hour in the fall and forward an hour in the spring. At the beginning, the United States believed that this new system would help economize energy usage and better organize the amount of light the country received according to the time of year. Unfortunately, the United States later found out that their expectation did not quite assimilate into society the way they expected for. The introduction of daylight savings has become an inconvenience and even as a hazard to the lives of many.…
“42 states reported that most (75%-100%) public schools started before 8:30 a.m” (“Schools Start Too Early”). Most schools start before 8:30. A decent amount of schools start around 7:20. Schools start early in the day and release later in the afternoon. This has become routine, but studies show that students who start early in the day perform worse in school compared to those who start later in the day. Schools should implement a later start time for higher schoolers since high schoolers would get around the recommended amount of sleep, preventing sleeping in school and high schoolers academics and safety will increase, since they will get enough sleep to study before school and prevent drowsiness.…
Have you ever woken up feeling groggy and not wanting to go to school or do anything at all? As a result, many students go to school late or do not academically progress and participate in class. According to the Scholastic Scope article “Should School Start Later?” by Justin O’Neil and the article “Sleepy Teens: High School Should Start Later in the Morning” by Mark Fischetti, many schools are considering starting school later to help students succeed academically. Students have more trouble concentrating in class because they are not getting enough sleep. Some students arrive at school later because they oversleep. To make sure that there is less tardiness and the academic growth increases, schools are looking…
Starting school later is a big decision for students, teachers and also parents. Students get tired and to a point where enough is enough. When there is late start because of bad weather, students seem to get to school and be alert. It is very hard to wake up in the morning for some students because of the night before they might have had to do homework or get caught up doing errands and they seem to go to sleep late and they don’t get much hours of sleep. Schools need to think more about students academics and really look into if that student is behind, or is not getting enough sleep and do something about it like make school start later. School should start later because students always complain about how early they have to get to school…
Over 20% of Americans suffer from sleep loss and more than 1,500 deaths a year are caused by drivers that have fallen asleep at the wheel. One way these two frightening statistics could be lowered is by simply changing school start times. Students need more sleep than what they are getting due to early school start times, which is getting sleepy drivers on the road. School start times should be later than they are now because middle school and high school students are “programmed” to sleep in, sleep improves grades and it also improves physical health.…
The first ever Buy Nothing Day was held in Canada on 1992. Buy Nothing Day was organized as a day where no goods would be purchased, and as a result of this boycott of goods it would raise awareness of the ethical and environmental implications of overconsumption. This is a great and innovative idea that gives publicity to a neglected issue, which is the implications of overconsumption. Nowadays people do not realize how much damage overconsumption actually does to our world. They fail to realize that their brand new Nike sneakers were made by child labor in a crammed sweatshop somewhere in Asia. They fail to realize how much pollution was released into the environment from mass production in factories, so that they could have cheap goods. Buy Nothing Day is a great way to shed light on the consequences of our overconsumption.…
Have you ever went to school in the morning and not even remembering what went down? I know I have and I didn’t get anything accomplished during the first few hours. All I thought was how much I wanted to go home and sleep. To fix a lot of kids problems I think we should start school about 40 minutes later in the day if not more.…
Global Warming is an increase in the earth's average atmospheric temperature that causes corresponding changes in climate and that may result from the greenhouse effect. Thus there is no indication that the warming between “1975-1998” and “1975 to 2009” is unnatural, unusual and/or caused by anthropogenic carbon dioxide emissions. Global Warming may have started in 1975, but there is no observable evidence of anthropogenic carbon dioxide emission based global warming began in 1975. Most climate scientists agree the main cause of the current global warming trend is human expansion of the “greenhouse effect” warming that results when the atmosphere traps heat radiating from earth towards space.Yet the big question standing still is, is Global Warming real? Well here's what you need to know about the warming planet, how it's affecting us, and whats at stake. In recent years, global warming has been the subject of a great deal of political…
Curfews are a subject that is widely discussed on if they should or should not be enforced most of the people lean to enforce curfews in an effort to cut crimes that are happening late at night. Most parents would agree that teen curfew is effective in reducing the risk of teens getting into trouble. But I believe that teens shouldn’t have a curfew. I say this because not all teens are out in weird hours of the night getting into trouble so why punish all teens for others mistakes.…
Many people don't realize that five days of school is too much for students. Some school districts have changed to a four day school week due to the benefits. However, some people don't agree at all. I believe that school districts made the right decision by changing to a four day school weeks. The National Education Association should consider making this change too because it saves schools money, improves test scores, and increases student attendance.…
According to Webster’s Dictionary, homework is work or study done in preparation for a certain event or situation (2016). Parents and students throughout the years continuously complain about homework, arguing that it puts too much stress on students and not enough time to participate in extracurricular activities. Homework has been debated since the beginning of the 19th century (Shahzada 4). By the 1930s, educators were stating that homework was terrible and had no beneficial effect (Shahzada 4). When Sputnik was launched by the USSR, students needed to focus more on education which brought homework back to fame (Shahzada 5). Homework must stay in schools because it is preparation for improving test scores, establishes time management skills, and teaches responsibility.…
Curfews are designed with the best interest of teenagers in mind; they keep teens at home in a safe environment, provide family time, teach respect for authority, and give time to do homework (“Do Curfews Keep Teens Out of Trouble?”). Most teenagers aren’t responsible enough to come home early enough to get homework done and get enough sleep. Author Kathryn Hatter says most teenagers aren’t mature enough to make good decisions therefore, they are very vulnerable. Having a curfew can be good because it keeps teens away from several negative influences and circumstances.…
