Topic and Purpose: When defining Natural and Engineered, the words are completely contrast to each other. Natural is define as the absent of humankind and, Engineered is the manipulation things known to the earth. In the world that we live in, everything is constantly changing. The philosopher Heraclitus stated that only thing that we can concerned to be real is change. The topic of Natural and Engineered is worth looking into because it allows the world and one’s self to question if are constant change is in the positive direction. Is our change to preserve what is natural or is it to move into a more engineered and advanced.
The topic of study is Coal. Coal is natural material that produce by the earth and reserves on it. Coal has a lot of use to our current and past history. Coal was the backbone in British and American Industrial Revolution, and caused major increase in both incomes. Coal was fast way to produced and energy and support new standards of life for many nations. Although, those coal has many positive effects scientist have took notice to health and environmental issues it has caused. Many people make a living off coal mining, and it bring money into our economy. Coal release smog so thick people cannot breath and, it is populating our area and, making our environment a unsuitable place to live. We must think to ourselves the true impact coal has on human life internationally. With a worldwide perspective, are societies enough to move away from coal? In addition, for those who are not, is it okay for them to continue the use of coal? We as human race will continuing changing (it is a part of our reality) but we need to figure out what direction we should

Coal produces carbon dioxide, a greenhouse gas and when it is released into the air it dramatically changes the climate. For every one tonne of coal the power plants produce it releases four tonnes of carbon dioxide. Canada has many other options to create energy and it doesn’t need coal as one of them. The releasing of carbon dioxide is the main reason for global warming so if Canada can cut it out completely Canada will be making the environment cleaner. It is not just carbon dioxide in coal that is bad for the environment. The oxidization sulphur and nitrogen can cause acid rain and lead and mercury is extremely bad for our health. The carbon is not the problem it is the burning of carbon that causes all these problems. There are solutions to the problem, but scientists are in the very early stages of finding solutions as they have not figured out how to prevent it infecting under the ground. People are trying to trap the carbon dioxide and liquify it to dispose of it properly. Since Canada is trying to be more environmentally friendly they two new coal plants they built in British Columbia is a waste of money since Canadians have projected to use 6.5 times more of wind energy then before. The increases usage of wind and nuclear energy are good things for Canada because they are environmentally friendly and don’t have many restrictions on where they can be.
