Argumentative Essay: The Cause Of Climate Change
In a poll conducted by expert Michael Bastasch, 91% of Americans aren’t worried about climate change, but little do they know that our planet is going through a disastrous process that we have caused and that it could potentially end up killing us. This process is climate change. Although the rates at which our planet is warming are very slight, this slight warming can have a huge impact. This is a pressing issue because our Earth is constantly warming and many catastrophic events could occur if global temperatures rise. For example, sea levels could rise and glaciers could melt, destroying the habitats of many organisms including us humans. Another way that humans cause global warming is by deforestation, which lowers the amount of oxygen being produced and carbon dioxide being consumed because there are less plants to facilitate these processes. This increases carbon dioxide emissions and this release of carbon dioxide heats the atmosphere. According to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, when carbon dioxide is emitted into the atmosphere, it absorbs infrared photons rising from the surface and re-emits them back towards the surface. This creates a constant heat loop which essentially heats the Earth because heat can not escape the atmosphere. Humans commit many acts which contribute to global warming, such as deforestation, the burning of fossil fuels, and the use of CFCs. These acts all heat our planet by either increases carbon dioxide levels, increases carbon dioxide concentrations, or by destroying the ozone layer, which protects us from ultraviolet radiation. So, this global warming is human caused. We must limit release of this destructive carbon dioxide in order to truly help reduce the effects of this
