This town's council is not giving the schools enough money, so that is why there are so many budget cuts. Many of the decisions of the school system are pressured upon the school committee. This school's committee, like every school committee, has been elected to office by the parents and the town's people. Portsmouth should have a four day school week because the four day week saves money, provides extra opportunities for both parents and students, and gives students more time to get better grades.…

On the other hand, Critics believe that students should be spending more days in school rather than fewer. In fact, in the United States of America many states require school to be in session for a minimum of 180 days, which is almost three weeks less than other developed countries in Europe and Asia. For instance, China and Korea have more than 220 school days (Kingsbury). However, a four day school week will not reduce the time spent in school. It will redistribute the time going to school into four days instead of five days. Therefore the school days will be longer in a four day school week to encompass the correct amount of hours required.…

Changing the five day school week has been argued for and against due the controversy as to whether or not it would actually be beneficial to students and teachers. When approaching the idea, many people would like to believe that five day school weeks are the most efficient and productive way to educate our youth. What is often overlooked, however, is that it is causing students to dread school more than they already do, and lessen their willingness to be in or attentive at school. Not only this, but many teachers easily get behind on either grading or lesson planning, while the school could actually save money when switching to this schedule. By refreshing the way the school schedule has previously been, we can address the issue of exhausted students who don 't truly learn anything, teachers who are overwhelmed with work and the economic questions within America 's schools. Providing both students and teachers with a more equal week of break and school time by having Wednesdays off will make students more willing to attend school, give the teachers time to furnish their lesson plans and give the school a break in costs.…

All primary and secondary schools in the United States need to change from the traditional schooling system to the newer educational system of a year-round schooling system. A traditional school system is one where students go to school for nine months out of the year and receive a three month summer vacation, whereas students in a year-round school system follow a cycle of forty-five days in classes followed by a fifteen day period of rest, for the entire calendar year. Students in a year-round school system get days off for holidays, too, such as Thanksgiving and Christmas, but often the breaks are much shorter and their summer break is only a month and a half long instead of three months. However, the advantages of attending a school with a year-round schooling system by far outweigh the disadvantages. Some of the advantages that will be discussed are retention of learned material from the whole school year due to a shorter summer vacation, reduction in disciplinary problems, and increased motivation among teachers and students.…

Kids and teens need at least 10.5 hours of sleep per night, but in a survey 51% admitted to getting 8 hours or less! The problem isn’t the students, more likely the problem comes from schools that haven’t laid a proper system to educate these children into becoming the best they can to achieve in the future. In order to increase student success in Anaheim, schools must have programs such as mandatory after school study halls and activities. In “Marita’s Bargain” by Malcolm Gladwell, I’ve picked up my first quote saying “I think that extended amount of time gives you the chance as a teacher to explain things, and more time for the kids to sit and digest everything that’s going on” (10). I see this as a support for my argument because it says that more school time can give teachers the chance to have more time with the students and…
