Antigone: A Good Citizen
A good citizen is rare person to come across. They are traditionally thought as someone who obeys their country’s laws and the guidelines set by the gods with no exception. Unfortunately, a country’s government can enforce unjust laws. What is a so called good citizen to do when this occurs is the question. A good citizen is not always a rule follower. In the play Antigone by Sophocles, a misunderstanding is depicted. Antigone, the main character, is seen as someone who is completely defiant against the King’s wishes. Antigone’s brothers, Eteocles and Polynices, went to battle after Eteocles refused to share the throne with Polynices. Both of them perished in the battle and only Eteocles was given a proper burial.
