Anthem: How Does One Lead A Rational Life In An Irrational Society
The society of Anthem to Equality By the end of Anthem, Equality has denounced his commitment to the moral beliefs that his society shares. His society believes that everything must be done for the good of everyone. In the end of the book he decides that it is better for man to worry about themselves first. The main point of Rand’s essay, “How does One lead a Rational Life in an Irrational Society?” is that we as people need to make moral judgements. Equality made a moral judgement to no longer follow the ideas of the society that he left.
I believe that it was correct for Equality to denounce the morals of his old society, especially after the way that he fled them. When he left he ran because they feared change due to the fact that someone had worked on it alone. They also took the lazy approach and said that it would be far too hard to get everyone to agree to the new form of light rather than the candle. Given the manner in which they refused him, it seems that they wanted to keep people unaware that such things were even possible. Equality is the type of person who is independent and thinks that progression is important to mankind.
