Anthem And Prometheus: Analysis
What worries me most about my future? This question is often asked but there’s many answers to it. The books we reviewed are Anthem and Prometheus. We also reviewed Critical Thinking and the Emancipation proclamation. Failure is one of my main worries about my future. First, Equality is also scared of failure. An example is on the book Anthem by Ayn Rand in page 43- “Know what you want in life and go after it. I worship individuals for their highest possibilities as individuals, and I loathe humanity, for its failure to live up to these possibilities.” What this quote is saying that you can be afraid of failure but you will always fail if you never try to succeed in life. This quote relates to me because I’m afraid of not succeeding in life. …show more content…
An example of being afraid of failure is in lines 10-20, “...In which people thereof, respectively, shall then be in rebellion against the United States”. Abraham Lincoln has 100 days to free the slaves but he is afraid that he will fail and he was also afraid that the people would rebellion against the United States. How this relates to me is that we both are trying to be successful for the present but also the future. However, we are afraid of failing and that will bring many bad consequences to our life. Next, Prometheus steals fire from the sun. When he does this, he isn’t really afraid that he will get caught but instead he is worried that he will fail. By failure, I am referring to the light not being shared with everybody else as that was his purpose. An example of this is in the Story of Prometheus by James Baldwin which is “...for he was always thinking of the future and making things ready for what might happen to-morrow”. This quote relates to my life so much because I am constantly thinking about the future as …show more content…
We discussed many different topics but at the end we always went back to the future. When we talked about failure, we weren’t just relating it to our personal lives, but as well as well as everyone in general. One of my classmates mentioned that technology is slowly messing our lives up. When she said this, she meant that basically everything we do is due is based to what we see on the internet. Although technology is making things better for us, it is also setting us up for failure in a way since we will be relying on it. I can relate to this because sometimes I use internet or technology as an advantage but what if I can’t use it later on in the future? Will I be okay or will I fail trying to do

In the courage part when it talks about fear of failure is described as, “a debilitating disorder characterized by an unhealthy aversion to risk. Some symptoms include anxiety, mental blocks, and perfectionism…” Even though I don’t think I have a disorder I’m pretty conscious with the fact that I do have a fear of failure. In fact, when it comes to perfectionism, I end up spending more time on the final presentation and every little detail rather than focus on the excellence of a project.…

On March 4, 1933, President Roosevelt said to the the American people, “The only thing we have to fear is fear itself.” This quote means that if you are overcome by fear, it will make the situation you’re in harder. When I read this, I say that I agree with our former president. When looking at the stories and article, “The Monsters Are Due on Maple Street,” “Three Skeleton Key,” and “Stepping it Up,” they show us that fear is our worst enemy when you are overcome by it.…

For some people it takes forever to figure out that failure is not always a bad thing, while at the time it may seem like the end of the world. “We are all potentially capable of any human act.” (Roth 39). Even the most successful of people have failed at something at least once in their lives. Maybe consider though, that failure was what brought them back up to the best, hardest working person that they could be and it did not take long for them to retrieve what they had lost and made it ten times better!…

The entire essence of the novella Anthem is the build up to a song of praise to the ego voiced by its main character, Prometheus. This anthem he sings settles the growth of anticipation of Prometheus expressing his individuality and his ego, fueled by him committing the Transgression of Preference repeatedly throughout the text. The importance of this proclamation is obvious as it is substantially amplified by reason of Prometheus uncovering the unspeakable word “I” coming from a collectivist society possessing the motto “We are one in all and all in one. There are no men but only the great WE, One, indivisible and forever.” With each preference Prometheus decides to explore, he falls deeper into discovering himself as an individual, but as the final chapters unfold and Prometheus exclaims “I stand here on the summit of the mountain. I lift my head and I spread my arms. This, my body and spirit, this is the end of the quest.” this veritable trumpet blast of first person pronouns making us aware that he's finally discovered…

The question of failure is, in fact, a success in itself. I frame my life knowing that every obstruction and challenge faced is just a lesson waiting to be learned. The circumstances that genuinely made me believe this philosophy happened when I began working at Chick-Fil-A. Starting my work at the offset of 16 I promised myself that I was going to prove to the management that I was going to progress to become one of the best. Throughout the years of working there I upheld my promise and worked my way up to become a Team Leader. The youngest Team leader ever to work at that Chick-Fil-A.…

There is a saying, “If you walk in the footprints of others, you won’t make any of your own”. Identity defines a person’s personal or behavioral characteristic(s). However, in order to “activate” it, a person must find it by his own will or fate. Without this trait, there would not be such thing as groups (or divisions) among men. Equality, being the protagonist of the dystopian novel, Anthem expresses that there is a gap between him and society. Men can be easily attracted by one substance causing everyone to follow or fear. The author of Who holds the Clicker explains a scenario in which Mario, a victim of severe OCD, consulted to a doctor to help him sever from his disease. Thus this ties also in with novel The Meme Machine “Strange Creatures”…

The novel tells us that the fear of failure is the greatest obstacle to happiness. “There is only one thing that makes a dream impossible to achieve: the fear of failure.” So often we hide behind excuses of not being able to do this or that, but the real story is that we are too afraid to take a chance. It is our fear of failing or looking foolish in front of others that keeps us from being who we want to be.…

Some people are scared of being trapped for so long, but yet when they receive their freedom, they will not know what to do because they are scared of what could happen if they do anything at all. This type of fear is the one that holds people back from doing things they really want. If all people would have this fear, the world would be an extremely dull place to live in because the people would never like to do anything exciting, which would also mean the people would never achieve their purpose in life. Fear defeats more people than any other one think in the world.…

    (3) Though fear can be a great way to motivate someone, it can also make someone insecure and fearful of the “what ifs”, making them unable to go forward. In the video “Light Up The Night,” emenite actor, Peter Dinklage tells us of the same fear, “I was afraid of change and it took me a long time to let myself fail”, he encourages us further by quoting Beckett, “Ever tried, ever failed, try again, fail again, fail better”. Fear can bring a lot of guilt when not needed making our choices clouded with…

“Fear of Failure” is a well known theme that we are all familiar with. Theme can be related to movies, books, and or plays. Every movie, book, or play has a main message known as the theme. The film, “Home Alone”, and the short story, “Ransom of Red Chief”, by O’Henry both share the same theme. One theme is “Never underestimate someone smaller than you”. In the film, “Home Alone”, Kevin outsmarts the robbers and he’s just a little boy. This proves the theme “Never underestimate someone smaller than you” because size doesn’t matter in this situation, how smart you are does. In the short story, “Ransom of Red Chief”, Bill is terrorized by Red Chief and he’s only a child. This proves the theme “Never underestimate someone smaller than you” because…

For example, Jeremiah 29:11 (ESV) says, “For I know the plans I have for you, declares the LORD, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.” This means that there is a plan and that those who fear rather than overcome are crippled with evil fear which is shown throughout real life by youth. Furthermore once said by myself, ”I’m not afraid of dying. I am afraid of dying of how others before me have thus I am afraid to drown.” This means that dying the same way others have is frightening it makes me scared to for example, go swimming in the deep section of a lake where others have drowned and…

When we start to fear about a certain situation we are only causing pain for a longer time, instead of living in the present and working on that certain situation when it occurs, we start trying to figure everything out beforehand, causing us to fear when there is no need to. As soon as people stop fearing the unknown, they can focus on achieving their goal. So often people miss their calling because they feared the outcome and didn’t want change. For instance, in The Alchemist, the merchant had always dreamed of going to Mecca, but never did because he feared change. He missed his calling because of one small instinct. When people let go of their fears, they are open to so many more…
