Another Political Scandal? Hmmm?
Set entirely in North Carolina’s fourteenth congressional district, incumbent Congressman Cam Brady fends off a challenge from an odd, unordinary, and peculiar citizen named Marty Higgins in Jay Roach’s The Campaign. This film serves one purpose: to show the obvious problems political action committees (PAC’s) pose when they are allowed to permeate in a campaign. Congressman Cam Brady played by the notoriously humorous Will Ferrell, intends on running for re-election to a fifth term in Congress, but his efforts are derailed when he engages in a scandal with a mistress and leaves a sexually explicit message on a local family’s answering machine, which was intended for his

Recently former Congressman Anthony Weiner, a democrat of New Work, tweeted a picture of himself in underwear onto twitter accidently. He was trying to send it to a woman, which is worth noting because he was married at the time, and still is. In addition, current Senator Mike Crappo, a republican of Idaho, pleaded guilty to driving under the influence of alcohol in late December of 2012. So, these scenes are not just jokes, they are actually practiced by todays leaders. That is one message Jay Roach tries to get across to viewers, that these acts are not just ideas developed by directors and producers, but are actual events that take …show more content…
Will Ferrell has played many politicians on the renowned late night show Saturday Night Live, like former President George W. Bush. That collective experience of playing dueling roles on a show like Saturday Night Live provided him with the experience needed for this film. Jay Roach and Adam McKay also chose a current Saturday Night Live cast member, Jason Sudeikis to play Congressman Brady’s campaign manager. Now for Zach Galifianakis, one might question as to why he was picked. One would most likely remember his appearance in The Hangover and wonder why he would be placed as a person running for Congress. It’s like a drunken teenager running for President. However, after further observation, one remembers that Galifianakis played a somewhat brainless and unconventional figure in The Hangover. That being said, he fits perfectly in this film because he is just that, an irregular man who runs for

At the beginning of the movie, it clearly shows different campaign style of two candidates. The movie started with the scenario that Cory Booker went to one of the highest poverty level neighborhood to gain people’s support. In Congress: The Electoral Connection, David Mayhew looks into the activities that members of the United States Congress engage in, particularly those activities that are related to re-election. In his analysis, Mayhew identifies three basic activities that are pervasive throughout the United States Congress, those being advertising, credit claiming, and position taking. These three activities, altogether, are taken into high consideration by a politician that is seeking to be re-elected. When it comes to examining the behaviors of politicians running for re-election, Mayhew’s analysis is plausible, since his observations can be applied across the political spectrum any period of time.…

In the “Congressional Pugilists”, we see how a fight ensued because of “[…] fight on the floor of Congress between Representative Matthew Lyon of Vermont and Representative Roger Griswold of Connecticut. The row was originally prompted by an insulting reference to Lyon on Griswold’s part.” The negative side-effects of politics have always been the casting of someone’s else’s reputation and character down into the drain for someone else’s…

One was a simple skit with only the cast members of SNL, who received that back end of Mr. Trump’s famous live tweets. The tweets sounded like insults from an elementary school student, lacking wit and reasoning, much like their author. Next came a skit making fun of Drake’s dance moves in his music video “Hotline Bling”, comparing them to a stereotypical white dad, physics teacher, and “tax guy” played by the host. Trump’s moves mimicking Drake made a fool of himself-- apparently we don’t see enough of that in the debates.…

This film illustrates the workings of politics through the presidential propositions and positions. At the beginning, the presidential candidates both had their set stands and motives on certain issues. Once they knew that the election depended on one mans vote, they began changing their propositions to accommodate his desires. This is a portrayal of how our candidates occasionally present a stand on certain cases with the intention of just gaining votes. Swing Vote brought humor and drama into a film that surprisingly has some really important and realistic political aspects.…

As our priorities lie with pulling forces and weakening American influence in the Middle East, our precedence should still be with investigating the attacks in Benghazi on September 11th, 2012. This current administration has swept this issue under the rug, claiming that the reason for the government’s lack of involvement was simply that they did not know. These policies of foreign involvement are becoming more transparent to the eyes of the American citizens, and creating a doubt in the minds of the people the U.S. government is suppose to protect. From Barack Obama’s cover-up for disregarding the phone calls for help, to Hillary Clinton’s role; before, during, and after the Benghazi attack, and to the CNN International survey polls, republicans have botched the administration’s intentionally misleading statements to the American people.…

In the movie “The Candidate” I thought that the film was very interesting to me, being a person that has never been interested in politics. I found it interesting even though I am not for sure if this is the way that campaigns are run now. I thought it was nice to see how some candidates may be chosen, especially in this film because he was not expected to win the election. He was not even interested in politics although his father was once governor. The film showed how the campaign was ran and managed by his advisors. Although not expected to win the election, he somehow surprisingly, pulls it off and when he does, he is left wondering “ What do we do now?”…
