This article discusses the role of melanin in your skin and the harmful effects that UV exposure has on it. UV radiation has been the main suspect in the appearance of melanoma. One as a photoprotector, and another as a photosensitizer. It is our skin’s form sunscreen which protects us from the sun. The photoprotective role of melanin, transfers to keratinocytes, where in skin cancers without melanoma, have been documented. The photosensitizer role of melanin, allows us to be somewhat protected from UV radiation.

This article discussed how challenging diagnosing melanoma is. No current markers in use right now make diagnosing a mole with melanoma any easier.
