Animal Testing Is Ethical
Over the years animal testing has become a frequent, inhumane practice. In the cosmetic industry, over 100 million animals are harmed or killed every year for the testing of products. According to PETA, who are the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, the majority of makeup brands are responsible for the cruel and torturous actions brought upon the innocent lives of animals. I am sure all of you make-up fanatics have heard of Avon? Estee Lauder? MAC? Revlon? These are a few of the famous brands that are all guilty. Animal testing is a very unethical problem. It involves tests on a variety of animals, such as: dogs, cats, rabbits, monkeys, rats and more. Locked in cages they await their next painful experiment and dream of freedom. …show more content…
For example, Urban Decay have recently reported they have declined any chance of selling their products in China, they stated “we do not test our products on animals, nor do we allow others to test on our behalf” Nonetheless, how can we be certain that these make-up brands are telling the media the complete truth? According to Cruelty Free Internationals, in 2014 Government figures showed around 8.37 million experiments on animals took place, even with the laws fully implemented. In fact, The Body Shop is a fantastic example of a well-known brand that highlights great importance on cruelty free products. Though is the company really as innocent as we believe? In 2014, the ethical brand was criticised by Australia’s watchdog Choice for being found selling its products in at least two Chinese airports. So, there was a definite probability that these products were tested on animals. This is not only shocking information; it is incredibly deceiving. Loyal customers of the shop are buying these goods, whether its makeup, body or hair products, with the belief they are completely ethically sourced, when quite often this is not true. In order for the world to see any improvements in this heartless industry we, as intelligent individuals, must stop purchasing products sold by firms that use animal testing methods in their production. As long as these companies are no longer able to make a profit, animal testing could quite easily be stopped. Just remember while you are applying your foundation and blending your eyeshadow, an animal was forced to give up their life for the testing of that product. Is it really worth it? When buying, think

Animal testing on cosmetics is morally inept and other alternatives need to be used. Cosmetics are made using several different molecular and chemical compound ingredients which can be toxic or have dangerous side effects if not tested. In 1938 Congress passed the Food, Drug, and Cosmetic act due to public outrage after many people experienced death or injuries from untested products. According to the FDA animals are tested for “how much of a drug or biologic is absorbed into the blood, how a medical product is broken down chemically in the body, the toxicity of the product and its breakdown components (metabolites),” and “how quickly the product and its metabolites are excreted from the body.”…

“The world does not need another eyeliner, hand soap, food ingredient, drug for erectile dysfunction, or pesticide so badly that it should come at the expense of animals’ lives” (Top five). Animals are being wasted every year by testing them on useless products that are not necessary. In addition, the animals are killed at the end of each test, thus, thousands of animals die with pain. The tests the animals receive are inhumane. “To test rabbits for development of toxicity, a pregnant rabbit is taken and exposed by force feeding, throughout her pregnancy. She is killed on the day she is expected to give birth. Her babies are extracted and evaluated for birth defects” (Cosmetic). These types of testing are morally wrong.…

Animal testing on cosmetics should be banned. People are put in jail all the time for abusing their pets, but people are never put in jail for inhumane testing of cosmetics and other pharmaceuticals on these same animals. The products we use everyday are a luxury that we are blessed to have and be able to use everyday. They are so easy to use and the benefits are so great that people don’t really care how they are made before they hit the shelves. But not many people think about all the tests that the product had to go through to get on the store's shelves. Not many people think about the negatives of the product and all the test that are done on ANIMALS. Animals that are tested on are put through medical tests that could potentially kill them or harm them extremely. The beauty product industry and scientist should find a new way to test their products and drugs without the endangerment to animals.…

Many people today can say they love their pet, whether it is a dog, a cat, a rabbit, or fish. Little do we actually think about the animals suffering to the torture of cruel animal testing that goes on behind the scenes of the company’s we love. Maybelline, Head and Shoulders, and Clorox are all companies that test on animals, yet are still supported by the thousands of people that buy and use their products. I believe the main reason people continue to support companies that perform animal testing is because society today is not informed or educated about the severity of animal testing. People do not know or care to research if a company performs animal testing. Besides consumers keeping these companies alive and running, animal testing is not humane or morally right. It has been scientifically proven that animals can to a certain extent feel pain (Tell Me if it Hurts: Investigating Whether Animals Feel Pain by Caroline…

Europe, which has the largest cosmetics market in the world, along with Israel, and India all have banned animal testing for cosmetics. They also banned the sale and import of newly animal tested beauty products (“11 Facts About Animal Testing”). The US should follow in the footsteps of these countries to help reduce animal testing rates. There are also some alternative testing options that don’t require animals to be used all the time (“In Testing | Alternatives to Animal Testing and Research”). Animal testing shouldn’t be continued, because the drugs produced from it rarely work, it’s cruel and inhumane, and it’s an expensive process.…

Animals testing is unethical because the pain and suffering that they are subjected to is not worth any possible benefits to humans. Animal testing has been a topic of debate for many generations. It is difficult to imagine a common house hold pet subjected to extreme procedures of the mildest and painless form to the harshest form imaginable. I am talking about your average mouse, rabbit, cat or dog. At the same time, consumers want to be assured they are using the safest products available, and people want science to find cures for life-threatening diseases. Lately, science has tried to prove out theories and hypnosis through computer algorithms but we still have to rely on physical subjects like the animals referenced. There is no public argument that says we should not test products before entering the market, the debate is the method by which these products should be tested. Animal testing is necessary for biomedical research, but should be eradicated for vanity reasons in terms of cosmetics.…

Animals have been used in research for countless numbers of years, dating back all the way to BCE. The number of animals in testing has grown as the years have passed, and their purpose has resulted in treatments for lung cancer, childhood leukemia, breast cancer, and many others. When most people think about animal science, they think about the cruelty and immoral treatment of animals; they do not bother to think about the side effects of animal testing. The medicine we buy or are prescribed, the lotions we use, and everyday makeup we wear would not be available without the use of animals in labs. With all the benefits that come with animal testing, one might ask why anyone would be opposed to animal testing. However, an article entitled “Ethics…
