Angelo Pizzo's My All-America
My All-American is an upcoming sports biographical film starring Finn Wittrock in the lead role as Freddie Steinmark, a short safety for the University of Texas during their remarkable 1970 National Championship season. This film is directed by Angelo Pizzo, the writer for sports classics such as Rudy and Hoosiers, and also stars Aaron Eckhart, Robin Tunney and Sarah Bolger in the roles of Darrell K Royal, the University of Texas football coach, Gloria Steinmark and Linda Wheeler, Freddie Steinmark's girlfriend, respectively. The film follows the story of Steinmark from a young boy to his eventual rise as one of the best players on the University of Texas football team. Along the way however, Pizzo tries unsuccessfully to make you care about the supporting cast of characters by jumping around scenes to quickly to flesh out interesting ones. Even his own mother, played by the talented Robin Tunney, barely has any interaction with …show more content…
Since Steinmark is displayed as a perfect person, both on and off the field, it becomes difficult to imagine him failing in any of his endeavors. In his early high school career as a football player he was a star running back getting around 5 touchdowns a game, and as soon as he gets to college he becomes the starting safety and achieves instant success. This leads to a very slow and boring first and second act of the film since all we see during this time is how good of a person Steinmark is. And at times, the film even seems to forget what the story is actually about. The film is about Freddie Steinmark and in order for it to succeed, it must show us Freddie Steinmark. Though for some reason when the University of Texas football team shows up on the screen Freddie is forgotten in many scenes and this makes it even harder to develop any emotional attachment to the main character since the film itself almost wants you to forget about

Family dramas are created in films that are made up of the realistic characters. The character will often play the part of a real life, delivering their history on film. Often, it is the events that have occurred throughout someone’s life, telling the intimate details in a story of someone’s life. In the case of “Rudy”, all of this film was based on the true events of Daniel (Rudy) Ruettiger. Being a family drama, this tells viewers that this film can be seen and understood in an easy way. The comforts of knowing there is no violence is lacked in family dramas. Although most of the movie’s plot was about football, and even though the majority of the movie was shot on location at the Notre Dame stadium, screenwriter, Angelo Pizzo never thought of it as being a sports movie. Pizzo stated, "Sports is a metaphor. Unlike most sports stories, it 's not about the state championship team or a great athlete. It 's really about the last guy on the bench. For a player with Rudy 's ability to actually get on the field for 27 seconds is in some ways a more significant accomplishment than a gifted athlete throwing three touchdown passes in one game" (Rudy Details, n.d.). This film was more of a motivational film for everyone who viewed it. It tells a story of strength and determination, and most of all it tells that one should never give up on their…

Kids were dropping from the team left and right, kids who could not take it. Edmundson asked himself if he was going to make it? He didn’t have the physical ability like some of the kids, but he did have will power, that in his words was “anything but weak.” Mark liked how when he was in deep fatigue, he became a tougher more daring person. He liked how the game transformed him, he came on to the field one thing, and when he left he was a guy with physical prowess and more faith in himself. He loved how hard the game was and the rewards that came from all the hard work. Another important thing Mark learned from the game of football was to be tough, to “get up and walk it off”. He once tried to tackle a tight end who was six inches taller than him and 50 pounds heavier. This did not boil over to well. He bounced off the big man and was left in the dirt unconscious, he layed there in pain, but remembered what his coaches had told him, so he indeed got up and walked it off, and he was ok. Football taught him so many lessons that the…

The film Friday Night Lights (2004) is based on the real-life story of the 1988 Permian Panthers football team in Odessa, Texas. The film is a more fictionalized account of the book it’s based on, written by author H.G. Bissinger and downplays the more intense issues that plagued Odessa when Bissinger followed the team during the 1988 season. (Briley 1) The film follows Coach Gary Gaines (portrayed by Billy Bob Thornton) as he coaches the Panthers in the football obsessed town. The film portrays the societal pressures put on young athletes, especially in a town where one sport seems to be the dominating past-time. All that matters is football; academics are barely even mentioned. No matter where these athletes go, they can’t escape the pressures…

Let me first begin by saying I am a huge sports fan. I played almost every sport growing up and have always loved watching sports, in particular college basketball and any type of football. I saw Hoosiers a few times growing up and enjoyed it every time. In my opinion it is one of the greatest sports movies of all time. The acting of Gene Hackman is definitely an Oscar winning performance. Even though this is not based on a true story it is very believable to me that this event could have occurred, and for that reason it enhances the emotion I feel when they fight through diversity and win the state championship. All of the above are the reasons I chose this film, I knew I would enjoy it and enjoy writing about it.…

Lewis excelled with foreshadowing “When Tom Lemming Walked Into the Football Meeting room at the University of Memphis, looking for Michael Oher, the ghost of Lawrence Taylor was waiting”(N.P.). This alluded to the future when Michael would become the most sought out offensive linemen but it gave an insight of what people in the realm of football thought of Michael instantly without knowing him. Lewis exceeded expectations by working with real life quotes to develope the charters” “It was really unusual to see a kid with those kinds of defects that wanted an education” he said. “To want to be in this environment. A lot of kids with his background wouldn't come within two hundred miles of the place””(N.P.). By including this real life quote the author added to the tone of how people categorized Michael. Lewis did well with displaying how Leigh Anne felt about Micheal without flat out saying it “The next day, Afternoon, Leigh Anne left her Business she had her own interior decorating outfit- turned up at Briarcrest, picked up the kid, and took off with him”(N.P.). This exhibits how Leigh Anne felt about Michael she cared for him just like he was her own son. People treated Michael diffrent because of how he appeared but not the Tuohy's they treated him just like a member of the…
