Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta, better known by her stage name of Lady Gaga, has truly revolutionized popular music in the era since 2010. She helped to make synthetic pop music more popular and mainstream, while also causing a change in what people consider ‘normal’ with her lyrics and behavior. Her music is odd, along with her aura and stage personification. Her music also inspires millions of people to accept themselves and spread love. Ms. Germanotta is also a very popular and influential advocate for the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and questioning community. While she has not publicly identified as a member of this group, she continually fights for equal rights of all her fans, the LGBT community being a large section of her fan base. Most recently, she released a song titled, “Til It Happens To You,” which does not have any synthetic pop, but instead features piano, violin, and powerful vocals from her. The song is a single, and discusses rape. It mainly focuses on American colleges, but Lady Gaga recognizes that rape happens everywhere, but is disgusted by how it can still happen in America, a place which is supposed to be Utopian. As a rape victim, herself, Lady Gaga is truly emotional throughout the song, and sings from a true first person perspective. This song seems to be a direct response to the American justice system, which has overlooked rape as an unserious act of violence, and released multiple rapists in fear of “ruining their lives,” through that is what they have done to their
