Android is a complete set of software for mobile devices. It consists of: * An operating system * Middleware * Mobile applications

Android was built from the ground-up to enable developers to create compelling mobile applications that take full advantage of all a handset has to offer. An application can call upon any of the phone 's core functionality such as making calls, sending text messages, or using the camera, allowing developers to create richer and more cohesive experiences for users. Android is built on the open Linux Kernel. Furthermore, it utilizes a custom virtual machine that was designed to optimize memory and hardware resources in a mobile environment. It is open source and can be liberally extended to incorporate new cutting edge technologies as they emerge.

Android does not differentiate between the phone 's core applications and third-party applications. They can all be built to have equal access to a phone 's capabilities providing users with a broad spectrum of applications and services. With devices built on the Android Platform, users are able to fully tailor the phone to their interests.

A developer can combine information from the web with data on an individual 's mobile phone, also, he/she can build an application that enables users to view the location of their friends and be alerted when they are in the vicinity giving them a chance to connect.

When a business is looking at its online strategy these days, it shouldn’t confine itself to the world of computers. Instead, it needs to be thinking about how it can get into its customers’ pockets. Trends are pointing to the inevitable fact that mobile computing, and the Web site and applications that follow, holds great promises for business. The engine powering the gold rush onto mobile is the promise of geolocation, which is the ability for your phone to relay the information about where you are. The geolocation information in turn makes advertising on your phone smarter, since it can target you on a block-by-block basis. This technology has become one of the most popular trends in social networking giving us the ability to let our friends know where we are, identify popular or convenient places close to our physical location or even remotely check in to restaurants. These types of applications when accessed on a desktop system are bland and less of an experience.…

The Android Company was first created in 2003, but was relatively an unknown company until Google bought the company in August of 2005. It is thought that Google was, at the time, planning to enter into the realm of the ‘hand held mobile device’ wars…

As a result, the smart phone was born. With their ability to provide users with instant access to communication, entertainment, Internet access, calendar, news, social media, and much more, the smart phone revolutionized and shifted the path of modern technology. In 2006, Apple began this revolution with their release of the iPhone. Being the first proper smart phone, many other companies attempted to mimic the unbeatable features and technology that Apple had included with the iPhone.
