Agatha Christie is a world renowned author and is considered “the queen of mystery”. In one of her most famous books ”And Then There Were None”, ten strangers are lured onto an island and mysteriously murdered. Of the characters in the book, some can be considered purely evil. This is seen through their lack of empathy and sympathy, even after doing awful things.
Firstly, lack of sympathy is often tied to psychopaths or sociopaths, which is a common trait in people that are evil. Sympathy is the act of feeling pity for someone or something.
Vera Claythorne, the new secretary of “U.N. Owen”, has a pretty bad past as she had murdered a child for the chance to get married. Her lover, Hugo, loved Vera but couldn’t marry her because he was poor. …show more content…

Lastly, Mr. Justice Wargrave felt no guilt or empathy towards the ten “murderers” he killed as he believed it was for the “good of humanity”. He was evil this was his excuse to be able to kill other people as he said he could not kill anyone who was innocent.
“I wanted to kill....Yes, I wanted to kill…. But-incongruous as it may seem to some-I was restrained and hampered by my innate sense of justice. The innocent must not suffer.”

Anthony Marston felt no remorse to those he ran over, yet he may not be considered evil as he said it was an accident. Therefore, he has evil traits yet is most likely not. However, Vera Claythorne and Mr. Justice Wargrave did their actions on purpose and felt nothing, making them psychopaths or sociopaths and truly evil people.
