Analysis Of The Facebook, Inc.: Formulating Strategy
Pick any corporation you are familiar with and identify one of the competitive tactics it uses from this week’s reading “Formulating Strategy.”
There are several corporations that have used different competitive tactics to expand their business growth. However, One Corporation that has distinguished itself among others is the Facebook, Inc. The Facebook, Inc. is an online social media and social networking service based in Menlo Park, California, United States. Founded in February 4, 2004 by Mark Zuckerberg, Dustin Moskovitz, Eduardo Saverin, Andrew McCollum, and Chris Hughes, the Facebook has grown to become an envy of the social network industry with more than 1.13 billion daily active users and 14, 495 employees (Facebook, 2016). The Facebook is a service company and the competitive tactic it uses is timing-Second-mover strategy. Analyze the competitive tactic it uses.
Timing (second-mover) tactic is a strategy that implies entering into an industry or market while others have already laid the foundation or ground work of the market. For instance, the increasing number of people using Facebook through mobile devices has reached a turning point where the number can only increase and not decrease. Furthermore, one of the opportunities of the Facebook is its expansion to the Chinese society. The third opportunity is the ability to increase its revenue base because of the diversification strategy the company has adopted in the acquisition of the WhatsApp (Elleray, 2014). However, the stock price has been significantly falling since selling the stock to public. Although social networking is a growing market and the company plans to continue developing its productions and services, investors remain worried about the ability of the company and they have doubted that the stock will not be able to turn profit margins in both short-term and long-term period. Therefore, the stock of Facebook should not be invested in because it is overvalued and overpriced and the company might struggle with commercial revenue and be restricted in many areas.
