Analysis Of Ringside: Memories Of World Class Championship Wrestling
This event was Ringside: Memories of World Class Championship Wrestling beginning at 9 am on October 13. I chose this event because I wanted to understand the background of wrestling. I use to watch it on television, but it seemed better looking at pictures with a descriptive meaning. I enjoyed the atmosphere of the art gallery and how I felt welcomed walking in the gallery. The description of each picture made you feel like you were exactly present throughout each picture. I learned that wrestling is actually a fun sport. I also learned about two related wrestlers, Kevin and Kerry Von Erich. It was very interesting learning about their background history of their wrestling memories.

I think the speech I connected with the most in the opening ceremony was the main speech given by Dr. Marie LePage. It was not the whole speech, just one paragraph. Doctor LePage said that even though she had all this expertise in her field, sometimes she had this doubt that she belonged there with her colleagues, or even that she did not know she was doing. I missed a large portion of the next part of the speech because I was stuck ruminating on this confession of Dr. LePage. I had been struggling with much the same thoughts in my art courses. I am not new to the art world, I have taken many art classes in high school and a lot of after school activities, so I have a healthy understanding for my college level of art, but still, in my art courses I feel like I am faking being good at art or I don’t know what I’m doing.…

As a result of most of my family being athletes, I was pretty much destined to carry on the torch in the world of sports. Since the event was based on privilege and oppression, the event lined up with the lectures and readings towards the beginning of the semester. When the event took place, we had just finished up the chapter on Native American’s. This tied into the event well as the attention getter of the event referenced that the UW La Crosse’s campus was built on stolen land from the Ho Chunk nation. Normally, I would have labeled this as a fun fact of La Crosse, but after taking this course it made me think more in depth into how appalling it was for the white man to not only take the indigenous populations land, but turn it into everything that goes against their beliefs about land ownership. Another topic of the event that fit in well with our early class material dealt with racism being passed from generation to…

For my cultural event I choose to go to the African-American Poetry Night hosted by MCCC writing center. I found the event insightful as it highlighted well know African-American poets such as Mayo Angelou and Langston Hughes, and some poets that are not as well known, such as Marvin X. The event was open to the public, and the attendees was welcome to bring a poem or a story to share.…

Not only is this a part of my life but it has taken control of my life. As a child at the age of eight, I had not experienced many things nor had I the knowledge to know of all the great opportunities life has to offer. Things come at you when they’re not expected; that’s life. Actions that you may do in the present could affect you in the future. Noises, shouts and grunts could be overheard from a distance and my curiosity grew as they increased intriguing me to peek into the door of the burgundy coated building. Little did I expect that what I was about to encounter on the opposite side of this door would hold a great amount of meaning to me in the near future. I opened the door, my eyes were immediately drawn to the center of the gymnasium as people from the audience that came to speculate screamed and shouted. There was people seated on both sides of the gymnasium, from left to right people were exclaiming their emotions as they intensely watched the center of the gym. In the center there was a mat in which two young men were fighting aggressively, trying to bring one another down, grunting and panting. This is wrestling and it is not a game, it is war. This is my realm and my escape from the harsh reality on the outside of this gym and this is where I am destined to be for the rest of my life.…

“You can quit when you are finished.” My dad has been saying this my entire life. Everytime he said that I took it to heart because, it is a powerful saying if you really and truly follow it. There was a travel author planning to speak at a meeting room in a coffee shop about how living internationally can change your perspective. I thought that was intriguing so I went! It was at 2p.m that Saturday and there wasn’t a time scheduled for it to end.…
