March: The Story Comes To Life In WASHINGTON, D.C. activists were speaking out and marching for civil rights. John Lewis released a trilogy of graphic novels that tells his story during the March. Part of the story is Lewis' involvement in the civil rights movement, an effort for racial equality. In 1954 the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that segregation was unconstitutional. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. felt that these things should be done in nonviolent ways, even though he knew that African Americans were often the innocent victims of violence.
