An Incident That Made Me Believe in Fate!!!
An Incident That Made Me Believe In FATE!!!

I am choosing that free will exists in our world. I think that I make my own choices every day, but I know that God definitely helps me along the way. Every day I wake up, and I make a decision, should I go back to sleep, lie here looking at the walls, or should I get out of bed and go to class? My story takes place before I was a teenager; I would have to flashback twenty years. What is faith? Is it belief in one’s God? How does one find faith? Can someone that claims to have faith ever doubt? When I was twelve years old, I thought that I was religious. I went to a function with my youth group. In attendance were a great number of kids, I felt lost in the shuffle with so many things going on. Just as I contemplated to sneak away, a boy came over to talk to me, “How thoughtful,” I said to myself. We sat for a very long time and read the Bible together. It made me feel so special, like I was starting to belong to the group. I felt it was so wonderful that someone took the time to notice me. This experience had a very special meaning to me. One of the most important aspects of teenage life is feeling secure, accepted, and loved. At that moment I felt all those things at one time. My preacher came over to talk with me and wondered why I was sitting all alone. I looked up and realized I was alone. I told her about the boy who had noticed me. We read the bible together, and we talked for hours. She helped me look for him and we couldn’t find him anywhere. I was devastated and had no idea where he could have gone. I had been looking all weekend for the boy who noticed me, only I still couldn’t find him anywhere. That’s when I realized that this was awesome. I know what it is: It is fate or faith? Here I am at a Christian event, and to think I was visited by the Lord. I told the preacher that, and she told me that I need to tell everyone the account of what happened. So there I was, standing in

It was a chilly day on March 6, 2007. Me and my family were on 495 going to the Holy Cross Hospital with a slight delay of traffic. For some reason, I kept fiddling with my fingers, I was really nervous to see him. We took the exit 31A and we all shifted to the left since it was a sharp turn to the right. My big sister, Maisie, was on my shoulder and we shifted her head fell on my lap. She woke up and asked where we were. “We are almost there Maisie” my Dad said. We stopped at the traffic light and I fiddled with my fingers some more. “Stop fiddling with your fingers!” Maisie whispered to me. In my head, I say “I can’t, he is the first boy of the family, the first! Besides me!” I stopped fiddling and looked at the huge structure in front of me, The Holy Cross Hospital.…

Faith is the concept of having complete trust or confidence in someone or something. Faith is a very powerful concept of the mind. It can influence a person to act in ways never thought possible. One’s beliefs may be so important to them that they may even be the center of that person’s life. Take Elie Wiesel, for example. He was a very religious person during his lifetime, let alone his youth. He would talk about his desire as a young boy to go and study Kabbalah whenever the opportunity presented itself. He loved the religion, and his faithfulness for it was one of the reasons why he was strong enough to make it out of the Holocaust alive.…

Most days I came home to an empty house but I learned to care for myself and I grew up, maybe before I was ready. Friends, sports, hobbies, school and work consumed most of my time. One of my best friends was a boy named Jacob, who pushed me to enroll in the most challenging classes and make the best grades possible. We were competitive, but we both wanted each other to do the best imaginable in everything. Every chance I had, I spent it with him and his family. An empty house no longer consumed my afternoons. Mid sophomore year, Jacob died in a car crash, a car that I almost got into. My world seemed over, including my grades, as if I needed him to make the marks I had before. Returning to the grades and personality that I had before seemed somewhat impossible. However, I knew there was a reason that I did not get into that car that day, I had a purpose. Life seemed to be full of gaps, yet God began to fill them. To this day, every test I take, everything I do, I imagine both Jacob and my father sitting beside me, telling me to live out my purpose, whatever it may be. My top competitor was gone, but I gained an angel that day, one who is by my side in everything I do. Although there existed a period that I struggled, I overcame…

Nevertheless, it was the most beautiful thing I have ever seen in my life. Afterwards, I went and told my mother what I had just seen, and of course she shared my experience with our preacher. That night, my preacher called me on stage and told the congregation that God allowed me to see my guardian angel. Before this experience, I believed in God however, afterwards, that belief was cemented. Sadly, nowadays I tend to put my belief in God concerning my finances only when I have encountered a financial difficulty. Notwithstanding, I tell people all the time that God continues to bless me in all matters even when I feel that I am unworthy of them. For example, I got hurt at work about eight months ago, I was unable to work and only received a small amount of my salary while on disability. Hence, I went through my emergency fund and was facing foreclosure. Sadly, I was at my financial max on everything and I have no family to lean on in times of need. However, even though I was going through this struggle, I knew that God would send a blessing for me in the nick of time, and he did. Unfortunately, at one point or another in my life I have broken just about all of the…

In the novel A Prayer for Owen Meany by John Irving, numerous themes present themselves to the reader. Irving uses the idea of the relationship of faith and fate to question whether or not faith directly shapes our fate, creating the idea that believing in God in a world with no faith completely absurd. As the novel unfolds, you begin to understand ‘special purpose’ each character serves can only be told in the way God decides.…

I moved to the Atlanta area due to a promotion with my company. The position required frequent travel every other week. Initially, while my family was still at our home in Florida, awaiting sale, I felt it better to travel as much as possible to gain as much experience as imaginable on the road to not take as much time away from my family when they arrive. I was fortunate to travel with team members and to learn from each of them. One particular guy, Mike, is whom I spent the most time. Mike and I developed a friendship and still stay in touch today. Mike showed me the ropes of the job; we traveled to the wine country and visited San Francisco together on one weekend in California. Mike knew I was a believer and at times asked different questions about my faith. There was no five-question interaction or a special time of sharing the gospel with him. Mike began questioning his quality of life. He was searching for answers and meaning to life. Just a simple request; would you and Linda come with us to church? Mike started coming to our church. In a few weeks he accepted Christ. In a short time later his wife Linda accepted Christ and they serve Jesus in St.…

My family aboard the boat began to worry for one another safety. We were now in a life-threatening storm on the midst of a furious river. I observed the innocence of a child in my niece as the depressing look of fear surrounded her shivering, cold, wet body. Yet, she remained hopeful and prayed to God for eternal life in Heaven. We cried out desperate prayers while the raging storm pounded our pontoon boat like a boxing match. My grandfather maintained the courage and strength and proceeded to steer the boat in the horrific scene.…

    Faith Development Theory

James Fowler’s theory of faith development is another theory that I found useful and directly in line with my own faith, beliefs, and desired line of work. Evans et al. (2010) claim that faith is shaped from unconscious structures with stages of faith development and that there is a distinction between content and structure. “Individuals at the same stage can hold beliefs that are vastly different (content) while their ways of thinking about and making sense of their beliefs (process) are similar. […] Some individuals never reach the more advanced stages” (p. 197). Fowler’s theory was quite evident during my emerging adult interviews and it was in the area of faith development where I heard the most diverse responses. “Is faith a significant…

It was a tremendous spring break; beautiful flowers I have never seen before blooming outside the side window of the church. Who would have known karma could strike on an amazing spring day. I was sitting in the pews lost in thought that I didn’t even know that the preacher asked me a question. I looked up to see what he wanted. When I didn’t answer he just turned and begins preaching about daily sins, and karma. When I look to my right, Ancelinna was trying to conceal her smile while mom was throwing spears at me with her eyes; knowing I was going to get a stupid lecture about paying attention after mass.…

As I entered first grade in Religious Education, the smile on her face told me that this was going to be fun and exciting. The teacher seemed happy and comfortable to have me as her student. All of the other kids came in, introducing ourselves to the teacher and talking about our summer. The room was small, but was enough for her to teach. The first day of school began and ended with a treat she brought for us. Since the start, I knew that I would get along with her just fine…
