An Accident
A few years ago I received my dream car, a dark blue 1967 Ford Mustang with a 302 V-8 engine. Every time I turned the key I was able to hear that engine purr just like a kitten resting on your lap and could feel the glass packs, upgraded mufflers that cause the engine’s sound to amplify, rumble the seats and just add to that lovely sound that could be heard up to a mile away, which I’m sure the neighbors didn’t like.
The best feeling I could have was when I was on the back roads far from my house, which was usually free of any traffic for miles. That is when my pony could let loose and unleash the stallion hidden under the hood. The most enjoyment I got was whenever one or more of my friends were riding with me and I was able to see their faces light up when we hit 120 or higher. No matter how bad my day was it was enough to brighten my whole day.
One day I decided to drive my cousin B.J. home from our grandma’s house in Ontario, Oregon. While I was warming up the car my younger cousin and B.J.s little brother Jessie asked if he could come with us and I said, “Sure, the more the merrier.” It had been a particularly long day of visiting with the family and both of my cousins couldn’t agree with me more. On the way back to B.J.’s place I thought, “Hey as long as he lives on the back roads I might as well have a little fun with them in the car.”
During the first corner I floored the gas going into the turn and we swerved around at a ninety degree angle and they both couldn’t stop laughing and it seemed like they were having a blast. So on the next corner I did the same thing but added a little more flair by switching to neutral really quick and revving up the engine and then quickly switching back to first to get going again. Unfortunately for me I was not used to this particular part of the back roads but I didn’t really care at the time because B.J. said there was a very long straight away just ahead of us. I decided to stop the car and act like I

After breakfast, the parents went out on the lake to have “adult time.” So my cousins and I decided to go riding back in the woods. Chelsea and I were doing wheelies on the four-wheelers. Wheelies are so fun; I get the feeling of butterflies in my stomach every time I do them. Jessica was riding her four-wheeler backwards. Johnathan was doing tricks on his dirt bike. We were doing all kinds of tricks and cool things. We even had races to see who could go the fastest. Then we found a spot in the dirt that was really wet. We saw that is was safe, so we started playing around in it. We did what most people call “mudding.” We all had a blast until Johnathan flooded his engine, and Chelsea started complaining about having mud all over her. So they decided to go home and let Jessica and I keep riding.…

Little boys, young men, and even adult men all at one point or another develop and share some type of bond with their brother. Whether it is a tree house, sports, movies, music, or perhaps an event or particular incident, brothers always seem to have some common thing they can share and identify with, which brings them closer and acts as the foundation for their relationship. For Lyman and Henry, the narrator and his brother in Louise Erdrich’s short story “The Red Convertible”, it was a red Oldsmobile convertible that they shared, and it was that car that brought them closer together. They purchased the car together in Winnipeg, drove all over the country one summer together, and shared a lot of time and memories together…

The Relatives Came is the story of a family living in Virginia who visits their relatives in another state. This book appeals to an extensive range of children because its plot focuses on a large family living together throughout the summer and having to share a small space. Nevertheless, the initial discomfort later turns into a memorable experience as family members come closer together. The language style used in the book is age-appropriate and the characters are realistic without being over-exaggerated. Another observation is about the illustrations of the book that naturally connects with the story of the book and the reality of family’s reunions.…

Now I don’t know whose idea it was but we managed to get my dad’s truck keys to drive back to the house and grab the go-cart. Luke drove with Uriah and Hadassa, my neighbors, sitting next to him as Austin and I sat on the tail-gate, dragging our feet across the top of the dry dirt road. Now Uriah, who happens to be thirteen, is probably not the smartest kid you will ever meet. He’s home-schooled and doesn’t have the opportunity to hang out much with kids his age. His sister Hadassa is much like him; with maybe a slight bit more common sense as she is one year older.…

I went out to start the truck before we started to head into town and I’m guessing that because it was cold out it didn’t want to start right away. When I got it to finally start she idled really high (yes I call my truck a she, her name is Ramski. Even when she idles all you can hear her say is “Ramski, Ramski Ramski”). There we go, on our way to town. Thankfully we made it all the way into town without getting pulled over do to the fact that the truck was kind of loud once you really got on it like…

We were finally ready to leave and began walking to the car, which during the walk I remembered I needed to stop and get gas. So we headed to the gas station, filled up CoCo, which was my first vehicle, and were off to the dinner. In order to get to the dinner we had to get on the I-10 to I-110. We started off at great start on the highway. Crazily, only ten minutes into the ride we faced complications. While driving in the middle lane on I-10, an eighteen wheeler truck felt the need that it had to get over from the left lane into the middle. With the position I was in I could neither get over to my right nor to my left due to other vehicles being there. There was also a vehicle behind me. The truck began veering over to the right into my lane. I began to honk my horn and slow down as much as possible without causing the car behind me to hit me. I assumed the truck would realize by my honking of the horn it just was not the best time for him to come over into the lane I was in. Unfortunately he did not, and by the time the vehicle behind had gotten over for me to slow down even more the back of the truck hit the front of my car. The truck was lower than usual and the back hit the hood of my car sending my car spinning three times thereafter smacking into the barrier on the bridge. Initially, I was frozen in my seat thinking how fast it escalated but how slow it felt as far as spinning and hitting the…

As I started driving with much excitement I didn’t realize I was going fifteen miles above the speed limit. Unfortunately, there was a police officer that pulled me over. I was no so excited anymore, when the officer walked up to the window of the car. As I rolled down the window my sister smiled, explained very politely to him what happened right before that got us so carried away we speed up so excitingly. Fortunately, the officer was very kind and let us go with a warning. I was overjoyed like a kid on Christmas morning at that moment and was sure nothing else would go wrong.…

A friend of mine had two go-karts that we would take off through the woods on. We would explore the woods for hours and find new ways to travel through them in order to get to our favorite spot, which was an open field somewhere in the middle of those woods. I was usually very careful with my friend’s go-kart, but one day I decided to try my most favorite trick. On my first few attempts of ripping the steering wheel to the left I had no luck, so I tried the opposite way. Once I jerked that steering wheel to the right the go-kart immediately went up on two wheels, but it went too far.…
