America's Current Transportation System
Over time, as the frequency of crashes is reduced, cars and trucks could be made much lighter. This would increase fuel economy even more” (Anderson). Our country’s current transportation system is incredibly inefficient as drivers spend much of their travel time slowing down, speeding up, or staying stopped uselessly. The reason we have this current system in place is that humans are not able to work flawlessly in a complex system that would allow drivers to remain moving through an intersection at a high speed. Autonomous cars would eventually eliminate this system as they would be able to complete these complex tasks that humans are not capable of. Many are researching and implementing the latest technology or submitting a patent for that design. Technology is great for society but with safety in mind that must be the main priority. Personal safety is one of the main uncertainties when it comes down to employing self-driving vehicles on our roadways. The potential for injuries that will be talked about are whiplash, concussions and other injuries from vehicle accidents.
