Alexander Hamilton's Report On The Subject Of Manufactures
The two articles “Hamilton’s Report on the Subject of Manufactures, 1791” and “An excerpt from The Report on the Subject of Manufactures” were especially helpful. I found it interesting that he promoted employing women and children in manufacturing jobs. When I learned about American History is the past it seemed like the Industrial Revolution was so seperate from the time of the founding fathers and Enlightenment, but Hamilton connects them.
I enjoyed watching “Alexander the Great: Alexander Hamilton” from Uncommon Knowledge. It was interesting to hear directly from the author of the biography of Hamilton, Ron Chernow. His biography of Alexander Hamilton is the one that inspired Lin-Manuel Miranda to write a popular Broadway musical about

Alexander Hamilton: first Secretary of the Treasury, Revolutionary War hero, and one of the most influential figures of the late 1700s. Even though Hamilton seems like an intelligent, wealthy, high ranking man, he did not start out that way. Hamilton wasn’t even born in the colonies, but he helped create the United States, and we still feel his impact today. Growing up, Alexander Hamilton lived an impoverished life and faced many hardships. His mother died and his father abandoned him, leaving him with nothing. Alexander Hamilton never gave up and worked hard to succeed. At the young age of fourteen, he was in charge of an import-export firm, directing ships and keeping track of all the country’s shipments. At age seventeen, Hamilton…

In Paper #1 of the Federalist Papers, Alexander Hamilton calls on the American public to engage in a process of “reflection and choice”. By this, he means that he would like to see Americans foster political reflection in a public sphere. The face-to-face debate clubs and small-scale pamphleteering described by Benjamin Franklin in The Autobiography of Benjamin Franklin is much more effective at promoting political reflection in the public sphere than the current mass media. The small-scale efforts were more effective because they encouraged personal debates. The mass media on the other hand, can tend to digress from the important issues and not delve enough into the political spectrum.…

First, I want to say that I loved the first documentary about George Washington and the rest of the presidents from the Revolutionary Generation. Despite being the first President of the United States and not knowing exactly what he should do, George Washington demonstrated amazing leadership skills in his two terms. The fact that G. Washington never got the chance to serve on Washington was quite ironic to me. Besides that, I loved to learn about how Jefferson embraced the simple things in life (like wearing slippers at home, even when he had guests), but I was also shocked to learn about the rumors of his affair with Sally Hemings, that’s something I’d never expect from an important figure like him, but we’ll never know if this was true or not. Finally, here is a fun fact I liked from the documentary: Back then eating ice cream was a privilege, and Dolly Madison’s (James Madison’s wife) favorite ice cream flavor was oyster…oyster! What a weird taste but hey, to each his own!…

Hamilton the Revolution is a book full of many things. War, violence, love, hate, brilliance and idiocy. These are just a few of the many topics and ideas covered in the massive doorstop of a book that is Hamilton. Although it is a wonderful book, I don’t think I would want to live through it. War is glorified by many characters in the play, including Hamilton himself, but I really cannot see war as anything but a horrific waste. I would be stuck in the middle of bloodbath, forced to pick a side. Although I do see the reasoning behind those who revolted, I’m not sure I would want to risk my life and livelihood just to avoid taxation. This would be an unpopular opinion though, and I would be looked down upon by many. I would not want to live…

After being given news of the battle of Lexington and Concord, Alexander Hamilton began to prepare for the war. With an old friend Robert Troup and other King's College men, Hamilton formed a volunteer musket drill unit and, with the assistance of some of his veteran professors, trained a group of young college boys to shoot and fight. Hamilton also began studying artillery with the help from his math professor. Alexander and his volunteers had their first military action on the night of August 23, 1775, when they helped capture twenty-one cannon at a British stockade on the tip of Manhattan Island in New York. The operation was not really dangerous, because the stockade was only protected by one warship, which could do little to stop the land-based raid. Hamilton achieved some measure…

At first, the idea of a hip-hop Broadway musical about a Founding Father may strike certain people as silly and absurd, but when “Hamilton: An American Musical” debuted in 2015, it became an overnight hit. Hamilton strongly believed that our new country should have a strong base of Manufacturing, and he had some good reasons, too. One of the reasons Hamilton believed it so strongly because it added additional employment for American citizens. A great advantage that Americans had in industrialization was their ability to adapt to new technologies. This can be found through the cultural fact that Americans had escaped the Old World tradition of government and felt the benefits, so it would follow that doing the same for work and machinery would churn the same results. At first, the American public saw industrialization and the adoption of new technologies as they would help all aspects of life. This attitude aided in criticism of industrialization being delayed, but eventually it did happen and Americans started critiquing the effect it would have on the natural force of life. The response from Americans came in a variety of ways, the most negative view came from the idea that this would disrupt the natural…

My most recent obsession of 2016 is the Tony Award-winning musical, Hamilton, written by Lin-Manuel Miranda. It wasn't the clever rhymes or the casting of people of color which won my praise completely, but the overall theme surrounding Alexander Hamilton's life is what made me feel connected to this founding father. His story is inspiring, a typical "underdog" tale that was written beautifully in a series of raps and ballads. Each song reincarnates the people present in Hamilton's life at the time. We learn lessons from each of them; Alexander's ambition, Angelica's selflessness, Burr's patience, Washington's leadership, and Eliza's faithfulness. Their words impacted me and inspired me to contribute to something bigger than myself.…
