Alexander Hamilton Play Analysis
My most recent obsession of 2016 is the Tony Award-winning musical, Hamilton, written by Lin-Manuel Miranda. It wasn't the clever rhymes or the casting of people of color which won my praise completely, but the overall theme surrounding Alexander Hamilton's life is what made me feel connected to this founding father. His story is inspiring, a typical "underdog" tale that was written beautifully in a series of raps and ballads. Each song reincarnates the people present in Hamilton's life at the time. We learn lessons from each of them; Alexander's ambition, Angelica's selflessness, Burr's patience, Washington's leadership, and Eliza's faithfulness. Their words impacted me and inspired me to contribute to something bigger than myself.

The quote, "I am not throwing away my shot," quickly became my philosophy. I didn't think much of it at the time, but actively listening to the soundtrack led me to the realization of my boundless potential. I'm not one to openly express it, some days I'm in denial about having it all together. It's comforting to know someone feels the same as I do. However, it still bothers me how we are not on this Earth forever. It's a confusing concept. Why are we here only for us to die? How do I keep fighting when in the end I'll cease into nothing? It's still hard sometimes to push forward. I assume it's because I'm a fighter by heart (my horoscope is a Leo). My reason to live is to somehow make someone else happy. Whether that be because I told a good joke or I helped them solve a problem, that is enough to keep me going.
