Alex Morgan
For 17 years I have watched professional athletes break records and make game winning plays. As Lebron James and Miguel Cabrera can be titled as the best in their sport, Alex Morgan is at the top in hers. The USA women’s national soccer team has been in the top two spots for three years now and Alex Morgan is a big reason why.

As the youngest player on the national team in the 2011 FIFA Women’s World Cup, Alex Morgan came off the bench and dominated in every game. Unfortunately the United States couldn’t pull out a victory in the finals but as I watched Alex throughout the tournament, I couldn’t help but notice her effort. It’s like she never stopped working hard. Whether it was putting pressure on the keeper or going up for a header, she seemed to win everything.

My club soccer team sat in the same Taco Mac to watch every game the national team played in that 2011 World Cup. As most of us were just starting high school that summer, we could relate to Morgan. I was a rising freshmen and being the youngest in the school trying out for a varsity sport is always hard. Once I received news I was on the Varsity soccer team I was excited but I knew that was only the beginning. I would be starting center mid with two other seniors who had experience and been on the team for three years. The season was tough after losing in the first round of the state playoffs but in the end I scored 13 goals for the team my freshmen year. Alex Morgan’s effort really pushed me that season. I kept reminding myself of her accomplishments and how I could easily reach some of my own.

Alex Morgan still inspires me today as she earned herself a starting spot on the national team. As my youth soccer days come to an end the next couple months I think about how much of my success should be credited to her. I am looking forward to watch her continue her success in the 2015 World Cup and inspire more young soccer

In high school she played multiple sports but after her sophomore year she decided that she was going to stick with soccer and start focusing more on hat. Her senior year in college was really the start of her whole career. She played on the school team called the Golden Bears and was definitely their star. She led them to the NCAA tournament all of her four years and the second round twice (the NCAA is the National College Athletic Association.) The cool thing about Morgan is that she missed multiple college matches to go play for the U.S. national team which is excellent. And in 2009 she became the youngest member of the women’s national soccer team. In 2011 she was drafted first overall in the Women’s Professional Soccer Draft by the New York Flash. In that same year she was in the 2011 FIFA Women’s World Cup so she definitely had a lot on her plate. When I was ten years old I tried out for my local travel soccer team. I did not expect to make it, but by some stroke of luck I did. I started playing and it was not what I was expecting. In the past I averaged a hat trick every game, but travel soccer was a lot different. I started playing defense, but that might be an overstatement, because I did not get a whole lot of minutes. I knew that if I wanted to play more I was going to have to put in more work outside of practice. I started practicing everyday switching from running, to foot skills, to agility training. I probably spent more time complaining about it and there were a few time that my parents had to push me to practice, but I knew that I had to put in the work.…

Playing sports has always been something that I enjoy to do, so I decided to play a new sport. And that was volleyball. As a new volleyball player I didn’t know the complete sport of volleyball and how it was played, therefore I began to do research on different successful volleyball players. That is when I came across Destinee Hooker and when I did it made me more desirable about the game and about how to make myself a better person. I instantly started to watch YouTube videos of her from when she was in college at Texas A&M and when she became a professional volleyball player overseas and for our own country. As I began to watch her, I started to follow her throughout the volleyball season. Furthermore I learned the basic steps to volleyball by watching her compete in the games she played. In more detail she was also participated in the London Olympic games for two thousand and twelve which really influenced me as an athlete. Even though the US team did not bring back gold for our country, Destinee as a player brought gold to my heart because she gave it her all in every…
