A few months ago, the government in Ottawa had quickly canceled a new policy at Canadian airports that could make us safer when traveling by flight. The cancellation by government is based on the complaints from the World Sikh Organization. Public safety influences everyone in our society, including Sikhs. Once terrorist attack happens, everyone becomes vulnerable and threatened. In 1943, Abraham Maslow proposed a paper "A Theory of Human Motivation". Maslow’s hierarchy of needs theory describes the pattern how human motivations generally move through, 5 stages are divided in a pyramid. The lowest one, which is the most essential and basic needs that strikes one’s motivation is “physiological need”, followed by "safety", "belongingness and love", "esteem", and "self-actualization". In Maslow’s theory, one is only capable to move up when the needs from the bottom are met. For example, if one is lack of biological and physiological needs, one must try one’s best to satisfy the basic needs than try to meet the second level, which is the need of safety. Maslow’s hierarchy of needs now is still being widely accepted by the generals and make a great impact to psychological filed. If we apply his theory to this topic (should racial profiling be accepted), we can easily find out that public safety is on biological and physiological as well as safety level, while the profits of individuals and religions refer to belongingness and love or esteem. The President of the World Sihk complained that they can no longer keep their religious identity intact when traveling because of the Head Covering Policy despite Sihks are not associated with terrorism. The inconvenience brought to Sikhs is totally understandable, nonetheless, to improve the security level of the airport is the “safety” need, traveling with the religious identity intact is the “esteem” need, and if a terrorist attack happens because of security problem, the targeted people can survive or not is the “physiological” need. If we do not exert our most effort to maintain public safety, innocent people may die from terrorist attacks. If that is happened, how can we
