1. Abstract
The main purposes of this experiment are to allow students to get familiarized with air conditioning system and also to obtain experimental data so that the state point can be plotted on a psychrometric chart. The apparatus used in this experiment are SOLTEQ air-conditioning module (Model:HE166-02) which is designed to work with the Base Condensing Unit. The major part of the evaluation procedure is carried out with the aid of psychrometric chart. Thus, the heating power, cooling power and steam enthalpy can be calculated through the experiment.

2. Introduction & Theory
2.1 Air Conditioning
Air conditioning is a system or process for maintaining a living space or industrial facility at the desired temperature and humidity of the air. The SOLTEQ Air-Conditioning Module can be easily couple to the base condensing unit to form a complete refrigeration circuit. This unit involves several components connected by ducting for the air flow. The unit of air conditioning generally contains a blower, heater, cooler, humidifier and de-humidifier. Before the air going into the ducting, it is entering a variable speed centrifugal fan. Steam can be injected when the air entering the fan due to humidify the air. After that, the air passed over externally finned electric elements (pre-heating). The warmed air passed into a stabilizing section with humidity or temperature sensor before flow through the evaporator where it may cool and deposit some of its moisture content as liquid. The cool and drier airs passing over re-heating element after enter another stabilizing section. The re-heater air is flow back to the atmosphere after the condition has been determined.

There are four basic process carried out in air conditioning system:
Heating

TYPES OF COOLING SYSTEMS The most common air-cooling systems are either direct expansion (DX) type or the chilled water type. DIRECT EXPANSION (DX) SYSTEMS In DX systems, the air is cooled with direct exchange of heat with refrigerant passing through the tubes of the finned cooling coil. All these systems are comprised of a hermetically sealed or open compressor(s), evaporator (cooling coil fabricated out of copper tubes and aluminum fins), a supply air blower, filter, a condenser and heat rejection propeller fan.…

HES 2330 Thermodynamics 1 Semester 1 – 2013 ASSIGNMENT 2 Due Date: 29 May 2013, 5.00 PM Dropbox: Mailbox 83 (HES2330/HES4330) – Level 8, ATC Building 1. A container filled with 45 kg of liquid water at 95oC is placed in a 90-m3 room that is initially at 12oC. The thermal equilibrium is established after a while as a result of heat transfer between the water and the air in the room. Using constant specific heats, determine (a) the final equilibrium temperature, (b) the amount of heat transfer between the water and the air in the room, and (c) the entropy generation. Assume the room is well sealed and heavily insulated. 2. An ideal Otto cycle has a compression ratio of 9.2 and uses air as the working fluid. At the beginning of the compression process, air is at 98 kPa and 27oC. The pressure is doubled during the constant-volume heat-addition process. Accounting for the variation of specific heats with temperature, determine (a) the amount of heat transferred to the air, (b) the net work output, (c) the thermal efficiency, and (d) the mean effective pressure for the cycle. 3. A gas turbine power plant uses solar energy as the source of heat addition (see Figure for detailed setup and operating data). Modelling the cycle as a Brayton cycle and assuming no pressure drops in the heat exchanger or interconnecting piping, determine: (a) the thermal efficiency; (b) the air mass flow rate, in kg/s, for a net power output of 500kW.…

The goal of the project is to determine which type of cooling device will be effective in cooling a soda. In other words, the effect of cooling devices on soda cans. There will be four types of cooling devices used for the experiment. An ice-only bath with no water added, a freezer chamber, a refrigerator, and an ice-water bath with both ice and water added. This is the independent variables being tested, the four levels of cooling devices. The measuring of temperature in Celsius for Nestea canned sodas (12 oz), recording time, and describing the components of the experiment is the dependent variable. The qualitative variable is based on the description (such as appearance) of each cooling device, whereas the quantitative variable focuses on the measuring and recording the temperature as well as time of each cooling device. The constant starting room temperature (20 degrees Celsius) for the sodas, the same type of soda…

Not having air conditioning on a really hot, humid summer day can not only be uncomfortable, but for elderly individuals, it can be deadly as well. If your elderly parents live with you, and your air conditioning is broken, you need to make sure that your parents stay cool and hydrated. Your elderly parents will not be able to handle the heat as well as you can. Here are a few ways to keep your elderly parents cool until your air conditioning is up and running again.…

Are you tired of being hot? Well, air conditioners are your friend. In 1902, the first modern electrical air condition was invented by Willis Haviland Carrier. The reason for it was to solve some problems a printer was having with papers in the summer (“Title” 1). Air conditioners and refrigerators worked the same way. Instead of cooling just the small, insulated space inside of a refrigerator, an air conditioner cools a room, whole house, and/or entire business. Air conditioners use chemicals that easily convert gas to a liquid and back again.…

Later, in 1906, Stuart Cramer, engineer in North Carolina, invented a ventilating machine that add water vapor to the air of textile plants. The wetness makes the fiber easily spin and hardly to break. He’s the first to call this process “air conditioning”. During 1914, air-conditioner was officially used at home for the first time. Next in 1931, individual room air conditioning that sits on a window ledge was invented by J.Q. Sherman and H.H. Schultz The air…
