Where did instruction occur?
The Harrisburg FFA program takes place in a traditional agricultural classroom. The primary course that lead to the idea for this topic was Ag Processing, where 45 students are enrolled.
Why is this issue important now?
This issue is important not only because it affects the US financially by changing the way food is sold, but it also changes some nutritional values, which can lead to health changes throughout the United States' population.
What is the nature of this issue?
This issue is educational as well as awareness raising, as nutrition and dietary wellness in the United States has been ignored by the general public, leading to a negative effect on a large percentage of the population, in regards to their health.

This issue can be defined as a concern for the health of Americans. It is a concern because changing guidelines can change the way food is made and sold, affecting citizens nationwide.
What is the historical background of this issue? 
In February 1980, the US Department of Agriculture and the US Department of Health, Education, and Welfare (now the US Department of Health and Human Services) co-issued the first edition of the national nutritional guidelines. In it contained seven principles for a healthy diet, helping citizens in making their daily food choices. What caused the issue? 
The new 2015 dietary guidelines were changed for 2015-2020. The guidelines are changed every 5 years when something stays the same for years then is altered it can be problematic no matter how slight the differences are.
What are the risks? 
The new guidelines are putting farmers at risk. For weight loss, they recommend to stick with non-fat dairy, which can hurt farmers. The lack of people buying the other dairy products can hurt the farmers in which they could lose money, or their dealers may not need as much product as they’re

The problem is this: “[A] serious weakness of nutritionist ideology is that it has trouble discerning qualitative distinctions between foods.     Understanding basic principles of nutrition is essential for the food industry because it gives them the required knowledge to alter the processing of foods without actually making a significant change to the overall healthiness of the food. Pollan states, “For the industry, it’s obviously preferable to have a scientific rationale for further processing foods – whether by lowering the fat or carbs or by boosting omega-3s or fortifying them with antioxidants and probiotics – than to entertain seriously the proposition that processed foods of any kind are a big part of the problem.” Pollan is showing that the food industry will do whatever it takes to promote their products, rather than actually fixing the problem and creating a healthier menu.     The preventable diseases like heart disease, diabetes, hypertension and renal failure have become an epidemic in our society. It seems like most of every one we know has either one of above mentioned diseases. Back in the days not everyone was able to afford good quality food, so whatever they ate they ate in moderation, on the other hand now food is more affordable, due to cheap imports from other countries. People have made up a mentality that if less food is good then more should be better, which is not always true. Most of this health care crisis is due to lack of public health education. As health care professionals we know that poor nutrition is responsible for the majority of preventable diseases, while general public has no idea about what goes on in their bodies and what is the importance of proper nutrition. First point which I am going to include in a public nutrition program is Heart disease. Heart disease is responsible for 600,000 deaths in the United States every year–that’s 1 in every 4 deaths. Heart disease alone cost the United States $108.9 million each year, total cost includes, cost of health care services, medications and lost productivity. Heart disease is preventable, if the individual just stops smoking, eats low sodium, low cholesterol, and low fat diet and exercises routinely. The second point is going to be Obesity. Obesity is defined as having an excessive amount of body fat. Obesity is more than just a cosmetic concern. It increases your risk of diseases and health problems such as diabetes, high blood pressure and heart diseases. Lack of education, irresponsible eating habits and poor selections of foods are responsible for this preventable disease.     How important is the food that the averages person puts into their bodies every day? Eating is a way of making peace, passing the time, sharing friendships, and having a communion.     Through hearings and expert testimony of doctors and scientists of the day, they developed a single, population wide guide that applied to all individuals regardless of their risk or needs. They labeled it the “Dietary Guidelines for Americans” and in 1990 advised that it be reviewed and updated every 5 years by the United States Department of Agriculture and the Department of Health and Human Services (Rowe et al., 2011).     Food shortages not only allow the body to be underprivileged of energy, but also makes human beings face being malnourished. Malnourishment leads to poor health. People who face hunger are more likely to experience headaches, stomachaches, colds, ear infections and fatigue.
