After So Up By Katherine Wellander
This poem by Katherine Wellander is set on the idea that after death everyone is reborn as a new person. In the poem “After Soup,” the character chokes while eating soup, she then dies and begins her journey of death. Katherine identifies her death by saying “She felt her spirit peel away” in line seven. She begins her journey by lapping the earth but “on the seventh lap she collapsed and started her journey all over again as she lay awaiting to be reborn once again.”
