ADVANTAGES AND DISADVANTAGES OF USING CAR
TOPIC: “cars enslave us rather than liberate us”. Do you agree?

The idea that cars not only have become an indispensable part of our lives, but also have made our lives easier and more convenient seems to be practical. Nevertheless, it makes the assumption that people are over-dependable on them. As I shall argue, this not the whole picture, and there are some negative effects that cars bring to us. Both the pros and cons of using cars will be discussed in this essay.
First of all, I firmly believe that natural environment and people’s health are being threatened by cars. For example, increasing numbers of cars is the reason why there is an increased demand for the petroleum while these kinds of fossil fuels are limited. The more people use fossil fuels for running cars, the sooner natural resources are exhausted. Furthermore, noise and toxic gases that cars eliminate pollute the air we breathe and this seems to be uncomfortable for our daily lives.
Secondly, I am convinced that cars make the quality of life in our cities become worse and worse. For instance, the traffic congestion in large cities often causes a lot of inconvenience. It takes us hours to travel on the crowded streets, sometimes we can be late for work. Moreover, these days people rely heavily on cars to travel. They seldom use bicycles or walk to work, thus they lack of physical exercises. This makes people become lazy and passive.
Thirdly, I definitely think that driving becomes more dangerous thanks to the increase in number of cars. There are many crashes on the roads, especially at the rush hours. Consequently, people almost are getting more stress when they drive on street and feel risky every time.
On the other hand, there are many benefits of the cars. The fist advantage is that cars offer comfort and privacy. We can move quickly from one place to another place without waiting for public transportations, so we can save a lot of time. Another benefit of cars is we are freedom to

Over the course of the 20th century, the automobile has gone from being an expensive toy of the rich, to being the standard for passenger transport in most developed countries around the world (Urry). Not unlike the effects of the introduction of Railways into society, automobiles have changed social interactions, employment patterns, goods distribution and the basic face of urban society. The automobile itself is a rather controversial issue. Supporters of the automobile claim that it is a “marvel of technology” that has brought about prosperity, while opponents aver it leads to urban planning that discourages walking and human interaction, uses non-renewable fuels, generates air and noise pollution, and facilitates urban sprawl and urban decay (Kay). It is also important to recognize the effects the industry of automobile production has had on the economy. Automobile producers emphasized principles of mass production, and Henry Ford himself was a pioneer of what’s called “welfare capitalism”; a system “designed to improve the lot of his workers and especially to reduce the heavy turnover that had many departments hiring 300 men per year to fill 100 slots. Efficiency meant hiring and keeping the best workers (Crowther).”…

With cars all of this is much easier and way too faster than us human expect it to me. Today technology has exceeded human ability Albert Einstein once said, “It has become appallingly obvious that our technology has exceeded our humanity.” This quote is exactly what we today are seeing in all great inventions, including Ford Model T have made a big contribution in peoples’ life. Few people use this invention for a good cause today, for example, we have ambulance helping people reach the hospital on time, police who attempt to decrease crimes by catching the criminals, and fire trucks who also save many lives. Something that is common in all these three professions is that they use cars to make this world a better place for citizens to…

Cars are a fantastic invention. They make our lives more carefree by getting us from place to place quickly while abolishing the need for legs altogether. The everyday automobile would seem like a silly thing to give up with all its amazing factors. But do the bad factors outweigh the good ones? Cars are becoming a large problem in our nation, with the effects they are creating on the atmosphere and world’s environment and people’s health, the dangers of driving, and the outrageously high costs they have, even when there is an easy alternative for the trouble of automobiles. When most people think of the negative side of cars, they might think of the gases being released and the damage it is doing to the world’s environment and ozone layer. As said in Running off Road by Grover Kingsley, “The auto is a huge contributor to greenhouse gas emissions… a whopping 23% of emissions came from transportation.”…

The size of the car and the speed at which it travelled significantly increased the risk of road accidents. Cars made crimes like kidnapping and robberies much easier. The manufacturing of cars requires a wide range of materials which causes a severe depletion of resources and the factories pollute the environment (through air, water, sound, etc.). Cars release pollutants like carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide, lead etc which are not only harmful for humans but also cause environmental problems like ozone layer depletion. The usage of cars requires specific environment like roads, highways so that led to the degradation of landscape. The preference of cars over walking has decreased social interactions. A Socialist Graves Brown argues that "Many people in developed countries do not even know their neighbors and rarely walk unless they place a high value on…
