Article 1 – Children and families bill
Q1. Is it right that because the government doesn’t want to fund the care system, that our most vulnerable children and young people in care are being forced out of their foster homes at the age of 18, losing their valuable support system?
Q2. Shouldn’t young people’s futures be prioritised over the costs of their support?
Q3. It is my belief that every child should have a good strong start in life, is it right that those in care are given a subsidised upbringing for something no fault of their own?
Article 2 –Forced pregnancy
Q1. Considering the welfare of all children in today’s society, regardless of being a ‘looked after’ child or not, was the utmost care taken for this child’s life?
Q2. Is it right that the GP decided it was their discretion not to contact the correct authorities under these serious circumstances?
Q3. As a local authority what care will be taken to ensure this young girl will now get the support and services she needs to recover from this traumatic experience?
I believe that article one relates to my course as it shows how children are looked after in today’s care system. Social work can relate to all ages and groups of people. I feel that the young children in care are at one of the most vulnerable age groups and it is important to give them a good start for the rest of their lives. Some have had worse starts than others but with the right care and support all can blossom into whoever and whatever they want to be.
In my opinion article two is of a more serious nature in different circumstances. Many people pretend such vulgar things don’t happen in real life and I feel these issues need to be addressed. Everybody makes mistakes and its clear the local authorities did not pick up on the serious nature of happenings in this girls life. Although they cannot change what has happened I feel they should now give the greatest support and be more alert to such
