Abortion is one of the most divisive moral issues of America today. The Roe vs. Wade court case in 1973 made the debate national. This case was filed by a pregnant woman, Norma McCorvey, against Henry Wade, the district attorney of Texas. In Texas, abortion was illegal. This court case overturned the previous law on abortion and made it a right to privacy between a woman and her doctor up until the third trimester in order to coincide with the 14th Amendment and also balance with why the state wanted it to be illegal in the first place; to protect prenatal life and women’s health. Now a day, 2% of women between the ages 15-44 will have an abortion. Out of all the teens that partake in sexual intercourse, 19% of them will become pregnant with 78% of those pregnancies unplanned and about 4 out of 10 unplanned pregnancies result in abortion.…

Possible survival of a fetus outside of the uterus begins at 20 weeks gestation. A baby is made by the choice of a woman to carry out a pregnancy of a developing fetus to full term, at which point a baby is born. To have an abortion is to stop the “process by which an embryo or fetus is made into an infant” and a woman should be able to choose whether or not she will make a baby. (Nall) There are increased risks posed to a woman that carries a pregnancy to term as opposed to the risks involved in having an abortion. Women who carry a pregnancy to term face a “risk of death 11 times greater than the risk of death via abortion, and those with unwanted pregnancies have a higher incidence of mental health problems” whereas no such mental health risks exist for a woman that has an abortion. (Abortion Debate). In Abortion and the Concept of a Person, English offers consideration from both perspectives as she deems the question of personhood to be rather irrelevant. She suggests that even if the fetus is a person with…

Since 1973, when abortion-on-demand was legalized, more than 15 million unborn children have had their lives snuffed out by legalized abortions. That is more than ten times the number of Americans that lost their lives in the nation’s wars. However, abortion-on-demand is not a right granted by the Constitution. Not too long after the Roe v. Wade decision, Professor John Hart Ely, who is now Dean of Stanford Law School, said that the decision “is not constitutional law and gives almost no sense of an obligation to try to be” (Reagan 16).…

The topic of abortion has long since been debated about whether or not it is morally just, but, now with the progression of science and technology, it can be inspected with more fact and less emotion. It has gone on for far too long that those who are pro-choice can let their emotions become apart of their argument. Unfortunately, the ability to choose abortion, when made legal due to the ruling from Roe v. Wade (History of Abortion, n.d., p.1), has been legal for so long it is extremely unlikely that it could be overturned. One more factor that makes abortion so difficult to overturn in court is the large amount of support that it receives throughout the United States. This legalized killing of unborn children should, at the very least, be…
