APO Reflection
I heard about APO last semester but by the time that I learned about the organization, most of the rushing events had already passed. Most of my exposure to APO is due to friends, who are already members of APO, telling me about their experiences.

I’m interested in joining APO simply because I enjoy service and I want to make it a bigger part of my Cornell experience. This summer, I spent two months in Buffalo working at a community center that caters to refugees. During that time, it wasn’t uncommon for me to be in awe of the people that I interacted with and the experiences that I had as a result of this opportunity. Obviously, I could only hope that I was having an impact and making a difference, but I knew undoubtedly that the experience

I am a member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Inc. and being apart of this lifetime bond we pride ourselves in service centered on better the institution we attend and the neighboring communities. This semester my brothers and I have participated in multiple community service experiences, but what I particularly would like to speak about is a service that I am currently putting together. This service would involve my fraternity brothers and I volunteering time on Saturdays at the New Orleans YLC. What we would be specifically task with is going and spending time with kids in an underserved area; playing sports with them and just fellowshipping with them. We are having our first orientation this Wednesday February 17th. From that date on we will…

    WSPS Meeting Reflection

I learned many things by attending the WSPS meeting on April 6th. I learned that these meetings are much more structured than some of the other clubs and events that I attend. For example, there was budgeted time for announcements, a guest speaker, and final remarks. In many of my undergraduate clubs, meetings are less structured. The timeline is more fluid and there is not a set schedule. In addition to this, I learned about the national APhA meeting in San Francisco this past spring break. By the looks of it, many students had time to explore the city in addition to the conference. I may have to consider doing this if I am a pharmacy student one day. It sounds like the perfect way to interact with others in the field and have a vacation. Lastly, I learned that there are many ways to become involved in pharmacy school. For example, the Relay for Life-UW Madison was being discussed at the meeting. It seemed like an effective way to help the school and community. I would participate in this event if I have an opportunity in the future.…

Looking back on the course as a whole, I have learned how to effectively analyze my audience and distinguish and adapt my writing for that audience. I learned different ways to make technical documents look appealing to readers while also using graphics ad white space to effectively show the words of the documents. I learned how to work better in a team setting as well as improved my individual writing. My sentence structure and effectiveness has definitely improved over the semester as well. My thoughts about technical writing and technical documents wasn't changed much except for how much thought needs to be put into who the audience is and how to write specifically to that audience. Learning how to write memos effectively and just the general format for them will help me in the workplace. The help I received on my resume and cover letter during the course will help me tremendously getting into the workplace.…
