A Storycorp Prompt
StoryCorps can be used to change lives forever. StoryCorps are recordings of people talking about an event that happened, someone special, or an interview with someone. They are usually a few minutes long, and at most have about 4 people. These stories are meant to be shared with others to inspire, help, and entertain people. The stories are then saved and put into the Library of Congress for many generations to learn from. These types of stories can be made interesting in many different ways, but there are a few that stand out. In this essay, I will prove that the most important ideas to have in a StoryCorp are deep and thoughtful questions, are relatable, and deep messages. One way to make a StoryCorp better and more entertaining is to have deep …show more content…
In the StoryCorp Sarah and Joshua Littman, Joshua is suffering from Asperger's syndrome. Joshua asked the question, “Have you ever felt like life is hopeless?” (0:26). Questions like this are sometimes unexpected and keep people on their edge of their seats. When someone asks this type of question, it usually prompts an interesting response that can add much more information. This question also helped to show how close Joshua and his mom are. The fact that he is able to ask these kinds of questions adds depth to the interview. While in mine, I ask questions about experiences that my sister and I have been through together, such as when I asked, “What’s your best memory of me?... What would be your worst memory?” (0:32/1:01). These questions helped to make this StoryCorp better by getting into my sister and I’s past. It allowed for a response that showed people everything that we have been through together.

When thinking of stories the book expresses “Information travels under what seems like idle chatter. Stories are vessels. So build a Trojan horse. A narrative story that people want to tell (Jared from Subway) which carries your idea along for the ride.” People like to think in terms of narratives, rather than in terms of information. They are more concerned with the whole entire story rather than the content. Good stories have the ability to transmit information to others. Stories are also easier to remember; therefore, are more memorable than focusing on dry information or facts. When telling a story it gives people the ability to talk about ideas and products more easily and…

The Trade Publication, “The Gift Storytelling,” by Shiela M. Keaise. Storytelling deals with five important benefits for children. She uses subtitles to comment on the benefits of storytelling: Inspires creative imagination, flexibility, passion, human expression, thinking ability and visualize different ideas. She believes storytelling is a great way for children to tell who they are, to share their values, cultural origins and their thoughts. Storytelling can be fun and informative. Although, this is not a research report on storytelling, but I can relate to the writer. I have shared my life experiences with other people and they found it encouraging and exciting.…

I felt personally impacted by Isay’s Ted Talk because I have also gone through the difficult journey of acceptance of a loved one’s differences. As a member of the LGBT community, the Stonewall riots are a particularly interesting historical event for myself and the rest of my community. The fact that Isay was able to draw inspiration from the Stonewall riots is very inspirational to me. I absolutely adore the idea of Story Corps because I believe that it has to power to unite people who would otherwise not be informed about a perspective, other than their own. Transcribing human history is of the utmost importance if we wish for civilization to persist. However, Isay is adding a nuance to the traditional historical archives, and that is the…

From their origins in oral traditions, stories have been the vehicles for transmitting culture, preserving memories and making sense of the world. From the lips of skillful storytellers to the attentive ears and open hearts of their listeners, these tales fostered a sense of identity, communicated values, and provided education and entertainment. In this unit I will examine storytelling through folktales,…

“In this book, I explore why: Where did all this storytelling come from? Why are we suddenly so eager to spread the storytelling gospel? And who blazed the trail for an Age of Storytelling in mainstream communication?”(5). This is an excerpt quote from Storytelling on Steroids by John Weich which I thought is the core of what this book explores and intends to do. Through this review I plan to include anything that caught my attention. Most of these were things I knew unconsciously but never took the time to further develop these thoughts. First, John addresses that although this may seem like a new ideal , it is not. It is something that has been happening over the centuries. What we are seeking though is to know why it’s so important in this day and age, and how it expanded so much that anybody can write “storyteller” on a profile. He explains that this is because storytelling is something that is instilled within us ,…

Parents who have children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) should define their parenting technique more so than parents of neurotypical children. Children with ASD have many different needs. For example, an ASD child has great difficulties with their social skills; this deficiency causes them not to have meaningful social interactions. Their interests are narrow, and it dominates the child's life (Volkmar & Klin, 2000, as cited in Sansosti & Powell-Smith, 2006).…
